A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the felling of one of the UK's most celebrated trees.
The landmark at Sycamore Gap, beside Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland, was cut down overnight.
Northumberland National Park Authority officials believe the tree, known as Robin Hood's Tree, was "deliberately felled".

But still, a shitty thing to do. Seems like there are always people who like to destroy stuff like this. I remember someone in America pushed over a natural rock formation that had been in place for millions of years. Their defense was "we thought it would fall on someone someday"

I'd say to wait and find out what the hell even happened. Why just cut down a tree like this? On a whim? For attention? What was his motive? Also did he act alone? Was he helped or even pressured by someone else? Can't really say anything until we know more. Which is the purpose of the ongoing police investigation. So I say sit down, shut up, and let them do their job.

yeah you obviously don't send a 16 year old to prison for something like this, though it is a really fucked up thing to do. he should probably get probation and a couple few hours of community service. if there was a 60 year old accomplice he should obv get a more harsh punishment but i still don't think prison is appropriate
