I can agree. sometimes I wish it was just about the natural dangers, but I bet it was nuts seeing it for the first time in theaters

One of the best horror movies I've ever seen. I remember inviting some friends to watch it, and one girl fell from the couch, the big jump scare got her so good. I can't imagine the atmosphere in a packed theater.

If they hadn't ruined the first reveal of the monsters by putting it in the trailer it'd be at least three points higher.

Yeah so true. Still really great movie though. Manages to capture that feeling of claustrophobia so well. Wish more movies like these would come along.

There's more than one ending?

Sequel is also dogshit.

Saw that. Worse still are the questions it left me with that won't be answered because the series is done.

US ending:
She gets out of the cave and drives off. Happy ending.

International ending:
After hallucinating the image of Juno, Sarah awakens in the cave, her entire escape having been revealed to be part of the same hallucination. She sits up to see Jessica sitting across from her, holding a birthday cake. As Sarah smiles the shot widens to reveal that the cake's birthday-candlelight is actually the light of her torch. The camera slowly backs out, revealing the darkness surrounding Sarah as the crawlers are heard closing in.

These days the US ending has been all but gotten rid of. Streaming sites show the international version. Back when it was released though, it was still the belief that Americans needed a happy ending to enjoy a movie.

I was a fan of the book, which is nothing at all like the movie, so I dont even know why they tied them together.

That pissed me off a good bit, I should watch it now just as a straight horror movie.

Weirdly enough I hadn't thought of it since it came out until last night when I scrolled through TikTok and came across a random fan theory about it

Really enjoyed the movie, I watched it during my phase in high school where I was sneaking around and renting increasingly more violent horror flicks from blockbuster.

I liked the movie for its competent main cast. I liked that for the most part, the decisions they made were rational, not like in most horror movies where bad stuff happens to the characters because of their own stupidity.

In a way, the ending was such a downer because they were all such level-headed, likeable people just trying to survive. But I guess it makes sense in context.

I also agree that I would have preferred the movie without the monsters. The horrors of the first half of the movie felt so real because they can be.

I saw both endings and I agree, the more effective one was the British version.
