I knew going in it was gonna be I think in their words the "silver timeline" so I wasn't really expecting a straight adaption of The Fall of Reach or Halo 1. And boy did they sure take a lot of liberties in that regard, but they way they bowtied it at the end is just incredible and very meta.

So what do we have at the end? Cortana fulfills her original mission purpose and fully takes control of Master Chief, essentially bringing him back from the dead and efficiently and robotically commits Covenant genocide. Then saves Silver team, exits the noodle planet, and gtfos. BUT, after Cortana takes over, not another word is said by Pablo Schreiber. When Kai asks once they're safely on board if he's John, there's just a hesitant half head shake.

THIS SETS UP PERFECTLY for season 2. Reach hasn't fallen yet (though surely will soon since Makee escaped), the Ring hasn't been found yet, SPARTAN John "I Spend More Screen Time With My Helmet Off" 117 essentially because good ol' (mostly silent) protag John Halo, they can just hire a stunt double for pennies to wear the suit since the helmet will no longer come off, and since I'm sure Microsoft has MC's game voice actor on a massive retainer, they could even come up with some excuse to use him.

And the beloved events of the first game are entirely unmolested by a just decent adaption.

Bravo, guys. Bravo.

Though I did hear somewhere that they apparently just finished filming for season 2 so idk if they did any of those things. But they sure shoulda.
