Very violent and abrupt bicycle crash. The city is poorly lit, I admit that I brought insufficient lighting, and I basically rode directly into a rut in the street that pitched me out into a massive pothole which the city fixed and then it catapulted my off into someones yard. I guess the bike went with me because I slammed my ribs into the handlebars (or pedals?).

My ribs sort of feel like someone smacked me with a hammer and my hand/wrist took a lot of the impact, so I genuinely am sort of hoping theyre okay. I skinned my palm a little bit and the base of my hand really sort of hurts, but Im typing on a phone so I guess Im okay.

Being a millennial who was denied access to Obamacare can really suck sometimes. Time to do what I do every time and try to sleep it off. Wish me luck because I really cant afford a trip to the doctor

You should really get some X-rays or something at least.

If there is a possibility of cracked/broken ribs, do not sleep it off. Go to ER.

Well, the more I can poke around at my ribs, it feels mostly like a muscle bruise or something. Not coughing blood or anything. If my hand doesnt get better soon, Ill have the urgent care give me an X-ray

Any hint of shortness of breath should be an instant sign to go. Even if you have a slight or mild puncture in your lung or some kind of internal bleeding, it is not something to mess with and chance. You'll never know right now if an organ is in trouble as a result of the accident until it's too late, sometimes pain isn't the first indicator of an issue.

I know it sucks, and the financial burden seems like a bad decision, but money won't matter much if you are more hurt than you think you are and you skip on medical assistance.

Any time you're having pain while breathing is a "go to ER" thing assuming you don't know the reason. If it only hurts when you poke it, can probably wait for urgent care to be open.

its clear that you so badly want to blame others for this. between "...that the city shoulda fixed"... to "...i was denied obamacare...", it just has victim vibes

not saying you aren't a victim, but you did do it to yourself

I appreciate the advice, everyone. My breathing seems to be perfectly fine. I took several large breaths and didnt have any serious pain or I didnt hear any weird sounds from my lungs, so I think its probably a deep muscle bruise. They dont even hurt that badly when I poke them individually - just sore by now.

Its probably gonna be a rough night, but Im sure Im okay. I get hurt all the time, so the longer I wait, I definitely dont think anythings broken

.....don't wait on that shit..... waiting has caused me permanent damage to my body that could have been avoided. I went for a walk last year, tripped thought I had just rolled my ankle, walked 1/2 mile back to my car and went to bed. Turns out I ripped every tendon off of one ankle, broke the other one. I have an extremely high pain tolerance.

Just remember if you go to the ER to get checked up you can always negotiate down the bill to something actually reasonable.

(and i guess it depends on luck but you could also just ignore the bill. >____>)

The fuck. You walked half a mile with a broken ankle and the other one with bad tendons?

Yes. As I said, I have an extremely high pain tolerance. Mostly due to how many hospital visits and injuries I've had during my lifetime. Probably due to my nerves being all messed up thanks to all the emergency surgeries I've had. Case in point, my feet are permanently cold. I have trouble walking without stretching first, and randomly I get nausea. But when it comes to more physical injuries, I've full on struck between my toes and the corner of a hallway, broke my toe and went to bed, only for my toe to be black and blue the next morning but I barely feel a thing.

It's not a blessing btw. Far from it. Because I didn't realize my ankle was messed up, its permanently swollen. I got into a car crash about 10 years ago, broke my pinky, thought it was just bruised and now it can't be straightened anymore.

I'm lucky that I don't have any major issues outside of my recent Cancer stint, which I'm clear of now.

Lay in bed on one side and roll over to the other.
If you aren't in excruciating pain, you don't have a rib injury.

I've there man.
To the point I almost just would rather walk, and uber home.

My knee and one half of my body took the burnt of a fall a few years ago. The road rash on ny knee was unbearable for at least a month. It was kinda my fault, I shouldn't have been riding that night but still.

I also had a similar, but not asbad event happen coming back from a race track. In that case though I think my pants got caught on my water bottle wrack.

A friendly neighbor saw I was bleed, did a brief conclusion test and took me home.

......But yes it is insane how bad The American Health System is....

One should never have to think so much about basic health care

Most roads aren't really made for bikes are they.
Though I suppose it depends on where and how far from civilization you live.

You totally are entitled to foam at the mouth at not getting Obama care.

I think the CE 'rs telling you that you need to be examined are correct. Why not get an estimate and do a GoFundMe?

I walked ... IDK exactly how much but I was at school for half a day before I realized my foot was broken. It depends on how bad the break is.

Update:

I think Im okay now. Still in tons of pain, but everything seems legit. What sucks is that I had to stop taking Tylenol because its giving me an upset stomach. Its a real bitch getting up in the morning because its hard to not put pressure on my ribs
