When you play games do you gravitate more towards defending and countering naturally? Or is it the opposite?

Every game I play I always feel more comfortable playing a support or tank. Hell, I play this online Soccer game amd my best position is Center Back.

ai usually can't deal with offense in games

humans are usually super impatient and can't deal with defensive play, especially in fighting games where you can basically win by tilting the opponent

I always dump points into defensive abilities, usually play support roles.

Unless it's Rocket League. I'm aggro as shit in Rocket League.

I'm more defensive minded and prefer playing reactively to what challenges the game throws my way. That said, most games are designed to make offense better so I'll play that way if that's how the game works.

Recent example, being baldur's gate. Healing and defensive abilities are much worse than offensive abilities. You're better off just killing them before they can do anything to you. The best defense is a good offense in these games

Depends on the game. I like to have a good amount of defense and health because I'm not good at dodging and I get hit easily. But some games reward speed and offense to the point where you just need to fly in and overwhelm the opponents. Then there are games where a healer is needed, and I like being able to heal people, especially from a distance. And when you can be a distant attacker, I love doing that. Mostly because I'm just not great and I like to cheese. Being able to poison from a distance is great.

I'm more the "observe the behavior of the AI and learn to exploit it's habits" for PVE and "play in such an unhinged manner one can never learn to predict my actions" for PVP type, the former is far more effective than the latter

I rarely ever block. Just never think of it in most games, lol. I'm offensive for the most part.

Twist my arm and I'd say offense, since most games have goals achieved, or at least achieved faster, by being proactive. That being said, I find myself being support or tank in team comps, because randos are too stupid/greedy to play otherwise, and most of my friends legitimately cannot wrap their heads around one role or the other.

Special note for fighting games: There is no such thing as being a defensive, reactive player. This is the illusion of someone who has an incomplete sense of the genre. It is a tactic you can use in certain given situations. Fighting games are a genre where there are setups such that they cannot be defended or avoided in any way, only neutralized by being interrupted before full execution. To try to play reactively and defensively as a primary style is to stay in scrub ranks forevermore. Offense is defense. Defense is offense. There is no spoon, and there is only the spoon.

In fighting and strategy games, defensive. Even if I play an offensive character, I'm always thinking how to respond rather than how to pressure.

In mobas, offensive to a fault. I see a kill, I take it.
