Yes.

But if you're going to ask a poll-type question in your title, you really ought to have a poll for the thread.

What do you believe should be the number? Like how many legal immigrants should the u.s. let in every yr?

If its legal? As many that want to come here. We could even have designated immigrant zones with homes, utilities and jobs built by and filled by those immigrants. We have a fuckload of unused land for it. They all do a job in their homeland, they can do that job here for their own city. And eventually once they get their green card they are free to apply for jobs and get homes elsewhere if they want.

Don't few people want to live in wyoming and stuff? Most would probably move to already populated areas. Wouldn't the population of the u.s. be over a billion if everyone who wanted to legally immigrate to the u.s. , could? Maybe not a billion but many many millions.

Im sure theyd accept a few years in Wyoming with a decent job and home surrounded by other immigrants like them while they get their green card. Theyre free to do whatever they want once they get their green card. Population is going up regardless, and like I said we have enough empty landmass to sustain many many millions and billions more if we want. As long as all these legal immigrants are filling the jobs needed to support their community itll even out.

Anyone can come here freely legally.

But the ratio from illegals to legal is like 20-1

There's 45-60 illegals hanging out at the 7/11 I go to before work for example.

Always asking if they want to work for me, I guess cause I drive a pickup truck to work but yeah.

Depends on how much or little support they're need to assimilate. Knowing basic English at least for starters along with family and friends for to rely on would get them far.

Im okay with any amount of immigrants coming as long as they support themselves financially and arent crowding themselves in a densely populated area making housing terrible for the rest of us. Which is not whats happening with this migrant situation.

They aren't, legally, allowed to support themselves financially.

True. So we should only accept legal immigration.

Thats our policy only in law. It needs to happen in practice.

I think we need to.

With boomers leaving the workforce and some already needing regular medical care and other assistance, we need to offset the numbers. Not to mention social security.

Absolutely. If nothing changes in terms of qualifications, we should at least double the amount of green cards issued every year. The vast majority of applicants that meet every criteria are denied because there's an arbitrary limit to how many are issued.

What is the criteria for green cards? Have read little on this. Most need degrees?...etc...

Essentially you have to have been living here a pretty long time, be established, be contributing, and have a good reputation. The criteria are extremely rigorous, and there's legitimate debate over whether it should be loosened or not. Rather than get into that subjective area, I'm simply stating that if we retain the exact criteria, we absolutely, 100%, unquestionably should dramatically increase how many are issued each year.

I have a lot of asterisks on this one. I'm not just knee jerk reacting to the xenophobic right wing's "omg open borders" claims...

I'd like to see asylum seekers prioritized and expedited with fast, fair hearings and process first if all - essentially anathema to the right who actually prefer illegal, easily exploited, desperate immigrants to do jobs "Americans won't do(unless you pay them a reasonable wage)"...
