I should add that I wake up from it really quickly, so I don't have that groggy/disoriented period a lot of people experience.

No. I'm more afraid of when the pain finally sets in. Ive donated blood, had wisdom teeths taken out awake and dislocated my ankle before but never went under the knife.

Me, personally no. I was under anethesia when I had my wisdom teeth removed. It was quite the experience closing my eyes in one room for a second, and then opening them in a completely different room.

My wife, on the other hand, is quite apprehensive about it. As she had a friend who never woke back up from it. This was only 15ish years ago.

I've been under twice in the last year. Never felt myself getting sleepy, and woke up just like I was coming out of normal sleep.

I've been on anesthesia twice so not really, but technically something could always go wrong.

but usually if you're getting put under for surgery it's not really something optional(unless it's cosmetic I guess)

when I had my ankle surgery I had no memory of the whole next day though because of all the drugs

Same. I have to have surgery for cataracts at some point soon. They don't knock you out and they're doing things to my eyes which I'm squeamish about. They said they sedate you, which they better sedate me into an alternate reality.

No, I've had two surgeries in my lifetime where I've had full anesthesia and actually "going under" feels really nice, it's waking up that isn't so good as it made me very sick afterwards both times

That shit was rad. I remember being moved to the operating table and then *boom* I'm in recovery.

I've gone through it a couple of times. It's no biggie. I just lay down and go to sleep like normal and then wake up in recovery. My experiences have had me feeling like I got the shit kicked out of me for the rest of the day, but I just kind of slept it off. I was back to normal by the next day.

My biggest fear is they administer the paralyzing drug, but forgot to put the drug that makes you unconscious so you stay awake while they're painfully opening your gut while you're helpless and can't do anything.

The last time I "went under", I came to about an hour before I could move. Surgery was completed and I'd been stitched up but I couldn't move or talk. It was frightening.

The nurse came over to me (the guy with bugged eyes darting all over the recovery room) and explained it all.

I remember being put to sleep when I was 5 to get my tonsils out. Two deep breaths of the gas and I was out. I figured I'll be put under again if they decide that my gall bladder has to go.

Next week I'm getting a large growth removed from my nose which I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be knocked out for. At least I hope not, I want to see what comes out of it.

Personally I'm more fearful about the surgery itself.

I had two surgerys under full anestesia (at 6 and 15 years old), and I can't remember shit about these days.

I remember getting some ultrasound for my appendix, doctor says "well, lets just take it out to be sure, we could this today" and the next thing I still remember is waking up dead tired in my room after everything was done.

Well, that was much easier than getting the surgery awake with only a local anestesia.

Im not at the recommended age for a colonoscopy yet but a few years ago I was having some pain in my midsection so they recommended I get one. I did not fall asleep lol. It wasnt like excruciating pain or anything it just felt weird with all that air going in there. I feel like I should have gotten a refund on the anesthesiologist charge on the bill though.

I have been before. Its not nice, but its being aware of the surgery would be so much worse.

Its not like sleeping. When you sleep, you can tell that time has passed. General anaesthetic is almost like youre dead and just dont exist anymore and then at some point youre awake again.

Also, I remember whatever they inject you with felt like it was slightly burning my arm, and then I passed out.

I don't know, even though I know anesthesiologists know what they're doing and 99.999% of the time things go perfectly fine I just always fear the worst case scenarios of everything :(
