mahomes has been the best QB since he became a regular starter basically, guiding the chiefs to 3 super bowls and 2 wins in 5 years

mbappe i honestly dont know a fucking thing about except psg and france are two of the best teams thanks to him <_<

LeBron James is probably the greatest athlete to ever play in the NBA. Not the greatest player, but the greatest athlete. The things he could do at his size in his prime...dude was a freak of nature. Still is, considering his age and level of play.

I say all this and I don't even care for the dude.

I've always thought of decathletes and heptathletes as the "best" athletes, given that determining the superior athlete is why their series of events exist. Triathletes and pentathletes are pretty hardcore too and I wouldn't rule the best of them out of the discussion.

Well what I was trying to clarify was when you say athlete, did you mean physical specimen, who is the best at their actual sport, or something else

Depends on how you define "athlete". 30-40 years ago the winners of the Olympic decathlon (for men)/heptathlon (for women) were almost automatically considered the world's best athletes. That's how Jenner became famous.

Nowadays, there are different criteria.

Ohtani will go down as the greatest baseball player in history. He needs Tommy John surgery but even if he never pitches again his hitting is good enough that he can still be a starting DH or fielder.

idk about history. babe ruth still exists. or existed.... but yeah ohtani, even without his arm, is an elite bat. as a DH he put up 6 war which is insane. just bummed he's prob going to the dodgers.

Yeah that combination of run (+hurdle), jump (high+long) and throw (discus + javelin) is underappreciated. Plus, they have to strategize to blow out people in their strong events, keep competitive in their average ones and not get blown out where they're weak. A lot going on there.
