The military one was honestly cake looking back. Push-ups and some light running. How my police one, that was absolutely brutal. Running 5-7 miles daily. Doing push-ups and bear crawls for hours. Not getting home until 9pm and doing homework until 3am. Having to remember laws word for word exactly or getting smoked for hours. Or doing a thousand word essay per fuck up. One dude had a 20k essay one weekend.

army bootcamp was actually kinda fun

Is that for the US police? Because when I was a police officer in the UK, the entry process was really easy.

Yeah. Its hit or miss depending on the state. Theyre all really hard to get into. The process takes a year. But smaller departments in lowkey areas will probably be a couple months of what they call a gentlemens academy. Where youre treated like an adult and its like attending a college. But the one I did was grueling and people dropped like flies. We started with 70, graduated 25

Seems strange to have such a gruelling process only to end up with a fat from ideal police force. At least in the UK it feels like they arent really trying.

The standards are just different per department. My department is considered one of the best trained in the country with really high standards. A lot of officers will leave to other places for supervisor or training positions.

just coming from my department gets you waived at nearby states for a lot of their training requirements. But on our end, no matter how tenured you are somewhere else, there is no lateral and everyone starts from day 1

I had to do a paramilitary academy for 5 months for 911, so maybe lol. Got smoked every day during the 1st 2 weeks and then usually 1-2 times a week after that. We usually had to do crazy workouts like jogging 5 miles and doing burpees every quarter mile...in the rain. Or running up 30 flights of stairs then doing pushups on the rooftop. And then they would yell at you constantly during the day and you had to stand at attention for everything >_> Plus there was a lot of book studying at night and you had to be able to recite protocols exactly which they would stop you in the hallway and quiz you for every so often.

Buuuuut, we got to go home after the day was over, unlike real military boot camp. Shit sucked and I'm glad it's over, tho it was a good bonding experience with my classmates

BTW if you want real fun you should try the special boot camp the Army and Marines have to become a drill sergeant. I heard stories back when I was in.

Because the freshman 15 is real. You get into the lifestyle real quick. Going call to call nonstop, so you run through a drive thru on whatever you can eat the fastest between calls. Youre then tired when you get home and sleep. I ballooned up to like 230 and then lost it during COVID when life slowed down. And now Im just buff from hitting the gym nonstop. Being buff is nice though

It didnt bother me much when I did boot camp when I was young but the biggest hurdle was never the physical activity. It was the lack of sleep. Constantly getting up at 0200 or 0300 for 8 weeks in a row and not getting to your rack until about 2300 (11 pm) took its toll. They were long full days, often full of boring shit that made it more difficult than when you were exercising and fully awake.

Then with the rotation you would be on duty and have watches in the middle of the night sometimes. Basically you got zero sleep those nights. I mean it was just a tiny taste of what it was like once you left boot camp and were full active duty but it definitely could get tiring after awhile even when we were young.

I cant speak for how it is now as it was damn near 30 years ago but I remember laughing really hard upon arrival to boot camp. They made us box up all our civilian clothes we were wearing and everything on us and mail it home. Some kid held up an inhaler and said I have a prescription for this and the guy in charge took it out of his hand and threw it in the box and said The Navy will tell you what you need!

The kid had an absolute shocked look on his face that made me laugh. Probably wouldnt get away with it in todays climate but damn that cracked me up.

Are fat cops anywhere near as common as they are in fiction? I'm gonna assume not. I know the doughnut association is somewhat accurate since they're readily available high sugar snacks for those who work nights, but I'd assume that you'd have regular training and fitness standards to maintain... Or is that just for shooting?

I've never seen a fat cop in Australia. Granted I haven't exactly attended a venue with hundreds of them around. I've seen ones with biker-style beards and tattoos though.
