UPS drivers make a stable living and he has personally. She's kind of batshit, and is a package deal with her dad. They both live in a massive fucking city. It's really not as far fetched as some other sitcoms out there.

That's not true. She was raised in that cult from the age of nine. At one point, she asked about the cult leader's wife who hadn't been seen in a while and they basically told her to fuck off. She filed a report against the leader for going against church rules and they retaliated with years of harassment until she finally left it.

Since then, she's been an extreme critic of Scientology. Even had a show where she spoke with others who left.

I mean cliche or whatever, but sometimes it's not about looks. If you can make someone happy and make them laugh, that usually matters a lot. There are people who you see that are super attractive from the jump, while others grow on you.

I remember the episode where Debra accidentally threw away his letter from Mike Tyson or someone because it was one of the few where she was unequivocally in the wrong and he wasn't.

Almost every episode they paint Ray like he's the wrong and selfish one and Debra was always right but all Ray did was exist. I remember thinking that it was pointless for them to be married because the show portrayed Debra as really hating Ray with all the abuse she'd sling at him and how she only wanted to show him any affection when it would get her something. He wasn't always blameless though. He did dumb shit a lot of the time.

I believe she was born into it, or her parents became involved when she was very young, as her Wiki page says she became a part of it at 9 years old.

She broke away from it though and has been pretty involved with trying to expose how terrible and cult-like it is.

It helps legitimize and advertise them in the eyes of the public, and it helps them (in their view) "control" the media to an extent. These millionaire celebrities are also the only people who can actually afford the higher ranks/teachings in their little money scam of a religion.

Scientology treats Tom Cruise like a literal god, because of this. He's the highest profile person they have, and they bend over backwards to keep him happy. They have people assigned to be almost his literal slaves whenever he's at their headquarters.
