i know right i heard about this a few years ago and i didn't know it was coming out till youtube randomly showed me this trailer so i too hope it turns out to be good

There were a ton of great black cowboys in Old West. Hope this movie is well done and does well.

Expect right wing complaints about having minorities shoved down their throats sooner rather than later.

Pretty solid cast. And its by the guy who made Wind River.

anyway speaking of black cowboys i forgot outlaw named johnny black was out but i will wait for it on streaming it a fun movie so i am looking forward to watching this as well

I've read a couple history books about black cowboys, and one historian put the number at ~ 25-30% of all cowboys. It was either the Wild West or living under Reconstruction, and they chose the Wild West.

iirc, they were also referred to as cow"boys" since racists would tend to undermine their value as men.

now that i think about it the term cowboy did seem weird to me but this context now makes sense it's funny the term racist asshole love to demean black people is now the term they want to claim belongs only to them and there is another racist saying i didn't think much about it till someone pointed out the undertone of ''catching someone red handed'' used to refer to native americans

Let's not leave out the women either. Movies show the skinny kid with a pistol riding a horse for the Pony Express, but "Stagecoach Mary" was tall, black and carried a shotgun. She was so reliable, the USPS made her the 2nd female mail carrier in the country, and only one in the Wild West.

There are great stories out there just waiting to be told.

Amazon has a whole section. They're usually published by university presses & pretty cheap. Just put in "Black Cowboys". There's even kids books.

My personal favorite is Deadwood Dick. Great at lassoing as a cattle driver and became a rodeo star when those became a thing (~ 1890s). He ran with all the famous lawmen. Died in L.A. and wrote an interesting - if slightly embellished - autobiography.

will put it on my backlog ''checks his backlog''...i don't think i will be reading them anytime soon man i need to clear them but life and long ass working hours is a bitch and i get extremely lazy as hell on my day off and must force myself to play some of my backlog games i recently finally cleared blasphemous 2 and it was great i loved it plus i watched one of my long time backlog movie i watched titled apocalypse now and loved it the final half was just pure depressing yet i couldn't stop watching it the meeting with the captain and his monologue was just so capturing

There's a story about Bass winning a gunfight against 3 or 5 men all by himself. He also arrested and took in his own son for murder. Man was a badass. He also became a cop even after the death of the Old West. And he was illiterate which makes his bounty hunting even more impressive.
