The Romani people. A lot of people say oh they need the money who cares how they get it. I wonder if people know, adults drag their kids to sit in the summer sun to fake play a violin. To earn money that doesnt go to them, it goes to the boss who is running the scam

One of my teachers from when I went abroad to Europe actually made a Powerpoint during the orientation about not engage with them. And he didn't use the term "Romani" either, he used the other one.

We saw many in Paris, but it didn't seem to be that big of a deal. Although he did have a topic on pickpockets and dudes being forward with women, which THAT one was pretty necessary.

i assume Ethan is a troll. But this a well documented scam. Its not poor begging for money. Its an actual system, its a network. That money doesnt go to that family or needy. They usually have a luxury vehicle parked in the same parking lot. I have personally seen one walk into a Mercedes after we got a call on one and they left. There sign even said we need gas to get home

Its an actual documented ring with tons of sources to back up everything i say. The common thing is they normally get people to the US by whatever means. To pay them back, theyll have them do scams for them.

lets take this violin scam right. Theyll head a major city, rent multiple blocks of a hotel. Then mass send people out to shopping strips to do this. Collect the money and it goes to the boss

You could say all this without throwing in a whole ethnic group into the mix.

Think a little bit, if you actually care about the wellbeing of people.

Otherwise you can nurture an environment where such people as a whole are seen as "bad" people which can lead to issues like hate crimes.

I mean, it's really in "how" you do it. Not the words. If that makes sense.

For example. One can take issue with just a blanket "The Romani people..." but not so much with "...concerning some in the Romani community."

Either way, nobody words everything perfectly, myself included. So don't feel bad if you're being genuine here. As you've actually even educated me on this subject too. Nobody is perfect.

And such people, the scammers, are assholes and should be called out.

Idk what race they were nor do I care, but one of these violin loudspeaker scammers used to hang out in the parking lot of my local grocery store quite often. It'd be so fucking loud that you could hear it from my house nearly half a mile away. & they'd sit there "playing" with their whole family (couple kids, presumed wife, and grandmother) sitting nearby in a van. I would just think, not one of you can walk into one of these fucking stores in this shopping center & apply for a job? >_> it's such an obvious con lol

Yeah the "it's all this one specific ethnic group doing it" is the part I was referring to, not the violin players in general. I've encountered one in the wild before, was going to donate, but caught on that he was faking it because the music kept playing when he stopped to scratch an itch lol
