One infant is dead and three others were hospitalized after possibly consuming fentanyl at a Bronx day care center Friday afternoon, according to police sources as a witness said a woman trying to help one of the children screamed, The kids are dead! The kids are dead! Police responded to the Divino Nino day care center at 2707 Morris Ave. in Kingsbridge around 2:40 p.m. A 1-year-old boy was declared dead at the scene. Three others two 2-year-old boys and an 8-month-old girl were taken to area hospitals in stable condition, police said. The children ate something at around 1 p.m. before a nap, according to police sources. When they were supposed to wake up around 2:30, they were unresponsive, and given Narcan. Police said they are investigating whether the children may have consumed fentanyl, sources said, and a white decontamination tent was seen outside the building. Neighbor Mel Ramirez, 26, lives next to the day care and said he heard a female worker screaming in horror. When he went to check out what was happening, he saw one of the children unresponsive on the ground by day cares entrance as a sobbing woman tried to help another unconscious child.

She was yelling for help. She was screaming and saying, The kids are dead. The kids are dead, multiple times, Ramirez told the Post. They were just pale and unresponsive, he said of the horrifying incident. [One of the boys] mouth was, like, open. I was like, Oh my God. I cant do anything about it either. Neighbor Anna Ortiz Irving, 73, said a mother and daughter run Divino Nino Day Care and live in the building. Its a legit day care. Its brand new. Just a few kids, mostly babies. Theyre such decent people, she said. I watched them fix the whole place up. It was beautiful, all according to city code. If I had a baby, I would send it there. Divino Nino Day Care just passed its annual unannounced inspection with zero violations on Sept. 6, according to city records. It had received its license in May.

Why is fentanyl the leading theory, with no apparent reason to assume so?

Seems like more details are needed. Why is fentanyl suspected? Where would they have gotten it from? Like was it in the food they ate?

because Narcan worked. that's the only thing it does.

But why was their thought to give them Narcan? They obviously suspected fentanyl for some reason to even give them Narcan.

first responders know exactly what an opioid overdose looks like

It doesn't say the narcan helped, only that it was administered.

First responders are trained to recognize fentanyl overdoses so they can give narcan in the first place. Thus, something about the situation screamed "fentanyl overdose" to them. We'll have to wait for more details.

I mean, the threshold for a first responder giving narcan is probably pretty low as it is harmless if the person isn't overdosing and could potentially save their life if they are.

They give that shit out to citizens. Narcan is super easy to use and has no contraindications. People who live around junkies in their community all know what OD's look like usually too >_>

So they moved in the press after the inspection? Yet the daycare workers themselves were unaware? That seems strange.

if that's actually true and not planted by police investigators are going to come down *hard* on this, as they should. sounds like someone was watching kids nap in one room while running drugs in the back room

Using a daycare center of all things as a front to produce drugs would be pretty low, even by that industry's standards.

NY post claims they started subletting a room to someone, but I want to find another source to confirm that.

even if they sublet a room there's no way they could fail to notice a drug operation running in that room. especially since they're supposed to be validating *every* person who shows up with a delivery
