Got out of the crypt, went to the Keeper's library, did Gamall's lair (the pagans didn't have infinite respawning like they did earlier, thankfully), then slipped into the museum. Not sure if this is the final mission or the final real mission, but it looks like we can have some fun. Thought about getting the replicas, but...naw.

Don't forget to pour one out for R-dawg, too.

You should be able to buy the first three pretty easily, even without being bundled. Without checking SteamDB, they've gotta be about a $0.99 when on sale or something. They've held up fairly well, so now's a good time to (re)discover 'em.

Deadly Shadows has had a few undead enemies (Hammer Haunts, regular zombies) so far, but most levels consist only of human(oid)s to fight. Since you go through city streets between actual missions, you might be playing many, many hours before you even encounter even a single one. But if you're unnerved by the creepy crawlies, you might have difficulty with the Cradle mission, lol.

Really no. They all have undead to some degree.

The first game is the worst in that regard. There are entire missions that are just undead and maybe some wild animals.

The second game I would say is the best for avoiding undead. While they exist in small numbers in a few missions, they can always be bypassed and/or avoided entirely.

Deadly Shadows has only a few points where you encounter undead, but they are required to pass through. Also there's that one mission that's basically an encounter against an undead building.

Alright, finished the museum heist without much trouble. Surprisingly, not that difficult at all, with a couple items behind high-tech security and the rest in plain sight, where even the fattest, laziest guard could stuff his pockets with ease. I have no doubt those two bungling burglars who got zapped could've purloined many a hot item here -- truly men after Garrett's own heart. But I get the payday and they get a pine box...oh well.

Seems the final (?) quest is scooting around town to place items at monuments to kill the witch...or something. Already memorized the map for the most part, so there's no big deal there. I assume I can finally put my statue-bludgeoning club to good use en route, 'cause that power-up wouldn't be that useful otherwise.

RIP Artemus (???)
RIP Orland (????)

The museum is a cool "victory lap" level where you can just sweep the shelves. It's honestly not that difficult apart from their being more guards than usual, and there are a couple of tricks that can be used to bypass the "puzzles".

Yeah, one dude stands right by an electrical grid and mentions water arrows can short-circuit 'em temporarily. Not even hidden in a far-flung note or anything...just says it straight up. Not that it's that big of a deal to use the switches, although I do think that affects the lighting as well (???), so if you dump bodies in shadows, they may not be there when the lights come back on. At least, that was the experience I had when I reloaded at some point and found a bunch of my well-hidden bodies were just laying in the open.

If this was a Splinter Cell game, Lambert would've been chewing me out, haha.

Okay, finally got around to placing the five artifacts I collected earlier and turned the old hag and her calficied cadre into trash. Presumably. The keepers -- I presume the JV team after the best ones died -- apparently took her with them and abandoned the city, while Garrett found a little girl picking his pocket. I presume the Builder's cogs doth turn in his brain to have a protegee -- maybe it's similar to things that happen in the Thief reboot. (There was definitely a girl/rival in there at some point.)

In any case, a fun game overall and the only thing I didn't really like was having to mod the game to play it on modern machinery. (Might explain why none of the pagan glyphs I tried activating ever worked, no matter what elemental arrow I shot at 'em. Could've made the later parts of Auldale a bit easier.) Still, it was modern enough it didn't feel like playing something way antiquated with today's standards, so it might've actually given the best impression of the three -- something I didn't expect.

Guess I'll now join the Thief fandom and wait for a proper sequel to all of ol' Garrett's adventures. Hopefully before the next Halley's Comet sighting, haha.

Oh you didn't figure out the Pagan Cornerstones or Cocoons? Yeah they're not nearly as easy to suss out as the Rust Mites for the Hammers.

The cornerstones are just kinda... everywhere, but unless you're specifically looking for them you're not really going to see them. It's not like they glow or really stand out apart from just... being cornerstones.

Here's a picture with the light turned WAY up.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/2/2efe26dc.jpg

And the Cocoons are in their bases (Docks and Auldale) but you're not actually given a good description. They're the twin tusk structures and literally you can just shoot any elemental arrow into the center gap, as if it were a portal or something.

Some of the fan missions are really good.

Heck "Shadows of the Metal Age" is a full campaign and generally considered a must play. I found it... pretty good.

Oh yeah, it was the cornerstones. I kept shooting the mark themselves and nothing happened. Oh well, no love lost with the woodsie goofballs. By the end, I was just doing wanton murder on just about everyone in my way, especially in the clocktower district where enemies kept tangoing in the street and making it rather hard to move around. (Seeing regular enemies try killing the invincible hag was funny, though, and nice payback for all the annoyances they've been causing.)

Maybe I'll get around to doing Shadows of the Metal Age sometime.
