have heard some scientists hypothesize that it was because of great selective pressure. Like the meat eaters had to also grow big so they could eat the plant eaters. Does this sound plausible to you?

No.

For one thing, the atmosphere was more oxygen rich back then. Also the planet was warmer and more damp so good for large reptilians that spend time near water.

No, plant eaters grow big to avoid getting eaten. It happens today too.

Partially. There was actually less oxygen back then (something like 15% vs 21%) and the oxygen hypothesis has largely been debunked.

They evolved that way because of their environment. There were still lots of small dinosaurs and some of the biggest animals ever are alive today.

Looking into a little deeper, it's yes and no on the oxygen thing:

Higher oxygen levels helped dinosaurs to thrive and spread, experts find
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/dinosaurs-extinct-oxygen-america-atmosphere-a9072326.html

Rising levels of oxygen in the atmosphere hundreds of millions of years ago helped dinosaurs in North America to flourish, scientists have found.
Levels of the gas rose by nearly a third in three million years, which experts say is very rapid in geological terms.
Presenting their findings at the Goldschmidt Geochemistry conference in Barcelona, the researchers said this may have set the scene for sauropods and the Chindesaurus to expand into the tropics of North America and elsewhere.

The oxygen rise also coincided with a drop in carbon dioxide.

There wasnt always more oxygen in the atmosphere. The Mesozoic was a long time. While the oxygen levels were higher at one point, I believe that was the Cretaceous, while the Jurassic had lower oxygen levels (more comparable to the present).

It was certainly a matter of outgrowing the predators for prey and the predators growing to have a niche eating the large herbivores. This happened later with mammals and is a pretty common evolutionary route for land animals to go. Of course, the larger dinosaurs often did end up with evolutionary features to make their size less of a hindrance.

How is this logical though? It's not like living beings choose to grow larger. That's not how evolution works.

Does that explain the nitrogen?

Look around, right now. Almost all you don't see is nitrogen.

The atmosphere is 78% nitrogen, 20% oxygen, 1% argon, and then the rest.
Carbon dioxide is 0.4%.
