I used to be into tech and PCs but everything's gotten so damn expensive. I'd love to build my dream PC but even the cheaper components have gone up in price.

Serves you right for having hobbies.

It's why I stopped collecting retro games. Prices skyrocketed during the early stages of the pandemic and they've only gotten worse.

For my other hobbies the issue is more physical space

Nope. I only get what I really want, and know it will hold value in time. In my case, french music/soundtracks, and action figures(I'm basically the guy who's getting everything he has ever wanted as a kid, but cannot get) Marvel, GI Joes, Transformers, TMNT, etc.

Having a "hobby" is a sign of privilege. Anyone who has one should feel bad.

I honestly feel guilty about playing games and shit like that now. This current job hunt has been awful and looking at things objectively it feels like 100% of the money I make will just go into keeping me afloat and chipping away at my debt.

can a PC be a hobby? What you do with it is a hobby.

I have barely any money but PCs are so cheap these days it's easy to keep one going. So much free stuff to do on them, it's great.

PCs can be a hobby. Building them, upgrading them, learning about them, and so on.

I was doing that for a while. Then someone broke in to my storage unit about two years ago and stole almost everything. The police did nothing because the guy on camera wasn't co-operating and even though the unit manager knew it was that guy because he had been recently evicted, the footage wasn't clear enough so they dropped the case due to "lack of evidence".

Lost out about $20k worth of stuff that I had been collecting since I was younger and only got $2k back from the storage unit company (the max payout). I considered looking in to suing the storage unit place first but apparently just like the police being under no obligation to protect you, a storage unit is under no obligation to protect your property and unless you can prove extreme negligence, you're likely to lose. Since then it's kind of put a damper on me wanting to collect anything. I mostly just buy video games and books now because I keep those at home.

Not really... My only three hobbies are video games, manga, and D&D...

Manga and video games are pretty easy to keep up with money wise, I just don't go too crazy... and I haven't bought an official D&D book in awhile, mostly third-party stuff and backing Kickstarters... Backed one earlier today for $160... Which isn't bad since it's just a one time purchase and then I'll have all the stuff...

Love your hobbies and take pride in them. Don't let the crushing weight of the new world we live in cover up that part of your heart.

I wish I had taken that kind of pride and shared it with my loved ones when they were around. Now life is just cold.

ive stopped buying headphones and iems for now. the ones i want to try are mainly in the 3 to 6 grand price range (dan clark stealth & open-back variant, hifiman susvara, audeze crbn, stax x9000, and various iems from crinacle's list). id like to audition the sennheiser he-1 as well but doubt id ever buy it cuz it cost like 60 grand

anyways im not super hardcore into the hobby. i don't create my own amps or headphones. i don't take my own measurements of stuff either cuz that's like an extra few thousand of dollars on equipment. though i do like looking at other people's measurements as a reference to what I am experiencing and creating my own eq profiles of various stuff i have. i like talking about headphones on specific forums and reading other people's subjective experiences.
tho I rarely do that now cuz i want to prevent FOMO whenever the new thing comes out (that costs below 1 grand) cuz i have the bad habit of buying reasonably priced stuff with a lot of hype lol.

What? Prices are actually great right now aside from GPUs, and you can get used flagships from the previous generation to mitigate that.

I have an RTX 2080 and it's starting to show its age as far as 1440p/120-144Hz gaming go. I've been struggling to run Starfield and I can't imagine having a good experience on anything that isn't a 300X or 400X, unless I've been completely out of the loop and AMD has comparable or better cards for cheaper.

Because they want only the Elite to have privilege, often feeling that only the "Elite" should be able to. The middle class, and the poor can just suffer and feel bad for what their ancestors were forced to do under the Elite.

6950 XT is the bang for the buck card right now. The video I linked should cover this if you watch it, but if it doesnt, reviews will,

Are you using the DLSS mod? Starfield is poorly optimized, and using the DLSS mod / enabling FSR supposedly boosts performance about 30%.

But aside from GPUs, the price of everything else is as low as its been in 4 or 5 years. So even if you must have a 4000 / 7000 top tier card, just save up an extra $500-700 depending on what you want.

I have a Strix 3080 I got massively ripped off on when my 5700 XT was about to die during the bad times, and I dont feel any urge to update. Ran Armored Core 6 fully maxed, RT on, 120 or so FPS at 1440p, wi5 out even getting loud.
