that was hard in the original, too; it's to drain all your starting resources and then it only gets that bad ONCE more in the whole game

It's one of the toughest parts of the game. Focus on surviving and waiting out the invisible timer. There's a cheese spot in one of the buildings with a ladder provided you don't accidentally break the top floor

The first few hours are frontloaded in difficulty, but once you start getting imo better weapons, it starts balancing out.
