It's not nuance when you have to make shit up to try and use as an example for one side.

You legit have members of a political party and major talking heads on that side saying very similar shit as one of them, and then on the left you have to make up some random bullshit that Glitterfarts_7390 says on AOL and pretend they are even remotely approaching each other.

Nah. Not only was Bill Maher an anti-vaxxer all along, he's also a germ theory denier. Actually, from that perspective, how could he not be an anti-vaxxer? If somebody thinks germs don't exist, how can they possibly believe that vaccines work?

On medicine
Im not into western medicine. That to me is a complete scare tactic. [...] The flu shot is the worst thing you can do [because] it's got mercury. [...] It doesn't prevent [the flu]. [...] [I]f you have a flu shot for more than five years in a row, theres ten times the likelihood that youll get Alzheimers disease.[28]

Although Maher's criticisms of the pharmaceutical industries are sometimes legitimate, his views regarding vaccines are wrong and potentially dangerous. Maher has gone on record as a germ theory denialist, claiming that Pasteur recanted germ theory on his deathbed.[29] He says he's not against all vaccines but, at the same time, he believes that being vaccinated for any and all illnesses represents a slippery slope and could damage our natural immune systems.[30][31] You can't have both, Maher. On at least one occasion his anti-vaccine stances were tracked back to whale.to.[32] He has also recently endorsed anti-GMO propaganda.[33]

In 2009, during one of his Real Time shows, Maher felt he had to "clear up a few things that people have been writing about me that are not true" and went on record to say "Im not a germ theory denier."[34] This has caused a great amount of confusion for the media. One can conclude that although Bill Maher may claim not to be a germ theory denier and may have some legitimate concerns about the corporate corruption in the pharmaceutical industry, his views on medicine are in contrast with mainstream medicine and his perspective on vaccines may be harmful. In later shows, he stated, during an appearance with former senator (and doctor) Bill Frist, that vaccination is 'not a settled science'.[citation needed]

In early 2015, after a long respite from anti-vaccine rhetoric, Maher dove into the issue again in a series of incidents, claiming the flu shot is "bullshit" and nothing but a scam by "big pharma", justifying his vaccine denial by claiming medical science is (somehow) not as reliable as climate science (which he completely agrees with), and inviting none other than Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (a noted anti-vaxxer) on his show.[citation needed]

In 2016, he outdid himself yet again by inviting Samir Chachoua, who claimed to be able to cure HIV with the milk of arthritic goats, on his show. To add insult to injury, he ended his "New Rules" segment of that episode bemoaning how the internet has allowed misinformation to spread easily.[35]

Maher was joking when he said he has a court-appointed psychiatrist.[36] Please reassure us! He must have been joking.

Unlike Joe or Bill, I don't mind seeing race everywhere. When everything is all white, it gets boring fast.

You don't know what 'nuance' means.

It requires appreciation of subtle differences. 'Right wingers be like this, left wingers be like this, and everyone else just asks why can't we get along?' is the very opposite of a nuanced take.

It's a simplistic rendering that tries to let the right off the hook by implying that being extremely sensitive to racism is just as bad as racism itself.

People who say this board or this site or the mods are almost always bad faith posters whove been modded (conservative opinions!) and are throwing a tantrum.

Do you have a link to the 261 bingo card? Id be surprised if sweeping statements about biased mods isnt on there.

Some people who advocate for 'why can't we just get along?' do so in bad faith. Others are perfectly genuine.

But there's a reason we can't just put racism to one side: historical and institutional discrimination still persists to the detriment of minorities. And meanwhile we have actual white supremacists marching in the streets.

We aren't at a magical year zero where, if we do nothing to disturb the balance, racism just won't be a factor any more. It's still dispensing privilege to some and disadvantage to others. And the threat of even worse is very real.
