And hiding unfavorable reviews from being added to RT scores. They only do small movies but kinda makes you wonder how the bigger players manipulate the system.

It's a good read and goes more into how RT is overall bad for the industry.

Most of these websites, including Vulture ironically iirc, pay freelancers $25-$50 per article. There was a whole fuss about it a few months ago then it kinda just went away. It's a numbers game at that point, and that's probably the reason why movie coverage on these sites are borderline painful to read.

Yeah the mass promotion of Rotten Tomatoes has been a huge blow to consumer awareness. A movie can have ~ a 6/10 Metacritic score and a 90% RT score.

Hollywood has always been like this. You think those award shows are for real? Nah. Money, a nice dinner, promise of a position/promotion, and pussies got all that.

i mean its not exactly a secret that freelancers get paid shit at any outlet. a lot of them have normal jobs and just write on the side. like jake cole for instance who is probably one of the ten best critics in america and writes for slant sometimes. depressing!

The Academy Awards are probably less bullshit than reviewers getting paid for reviewing things well imo.

absolutely. the oscars are probably more legit than any major awards show. i mean they awarded drive my car. still think they need to bar actors from voting tho because actors have no taste
