If the problem exists in his lungs, why did his arms fall off? Whatever is wrong with him, this is a big clue for the medical staff.

I once had 46 potato chips, but stopped there because I'd always heard the cautionary tale of what happens with 47.

What kind of dumbass eats more than 46 at a time?

The iron lung seemed to be working, oxygen and CO2 were being exchanged in the patient's lungs, so then why were the kidneys failing? This shouldn't be happening, but perhaps there was a clue in the 33 packets of gummy bears the patient consumed for breakfast the day before.

The undigested gummy bears had come together into a single mass inside the patients digestive tract. His intestines stretching and bloating, crushing the surrounding organs. But his arms were still not reattached, and the window to act was quickly closing. The medical staff knew in order to save the patients life they would need to perform two surgeries at once, one to reattach his arms, and two to remove the gummy mass from his body.

The patient is prepped for surgery, and is administered general anesthesia. But, a new problem arises. Unbeknownst to the medical staff, the patient is actually allergic to the anesthesia - it didn't come up in his medical history -, everywhere the anesthesia travels to in his body, the muscles become inflamed and swell to enormous proportions. His throat has swelled to 20 times its normal size, shattering his jaw, and putting immense pressure on his brain, rendering the patient unconscious. All the medical staff can do is treat the swelling and wait.

2 days later, the swelling had subsided substantially, the patient was still alive but just hanging on. Doctors were able to perform the surgery now, but without anesthesia, the patient would have to be awake through the whole procedure. Removing the gummy mass was pretty straight forward, they cut into the patient's intestines, scooped out the gummy, disposed of it, and sewed him back up. Reattaching the arms however, they noticed a problem. The ligaments and tendons were gone. The bones couldn't be reattached. This puzzled the medical staff. Surely the tendons should be there, it should be possible to put his arms back on. But then they noticed it, what they couldn't see through all the bloated organs and inflamed muscle. Every single one of his bones had become loose and were free roaming throughout his body. His ribs had punctured his vital organs, his limbs were like jelly, the bones no longer able to provide structural support. How could this have happened, how did doctors miss this?

Was the patient's name Peter Griffin?
