...yrs ago. there were only around 1,280 breeding individuals in the world at that time. Though iirc it has never been determined what caused this incredible decline in humans

Yeah, we bred with other species of homo.
It's why you can still find neanderthal DNA today

That's apparently why Humans have very similar DNA no matter where you go compared to, IIRC, other Great Apes.

It's sad that something like this might happen in the future (maybe not as low as 1280 people) because of global warming. Only specific people who have extremely high heat tolerance will stay alive while everyone else will DIE.

Good thing the 1% percent has been hording all the wealth so they can start distributing it all when it gets really bad... right? They're not just going to try to horde it all and defend it with the autonomous kill bots that the military is going to build in the next 30 years... right?

There's absolutely no proof, and it's hearsay, but I've heard people online discuss they've heard rich people talk about; in case of an world wide event (like a meteor or a mass extinction), they'd just build a bunker to horde shit in and (try to follow this logic) pay militiamen and PMC's with butt pats and food to defend it for them. If they were smart, they just get robots to do it because they wouldn't even care if you didn't give them anything and wouldn't try to coup you for your horde.

Unless the Singularity happened, of course.

Scientists have found traces of DNA that they say is evidence that prehistoric humans procreated with an unknown hominin group in West Africa. About 50,000 years ago, ancient humans in what is now West Africa apparently procreated with another group of ancient humans that scientists didn't know existed.

i read about this as well. For most of of the past like 4 millions yrs of human or ape evolution there were at least 2 different hominid species living at the same time. Ours is one of the few that there is none, iirc

Not crazy at all. Genetic Adam & Eve is functionally a certainty. If a woman does not have any daughters, then she ends an unbroken line all the way for her entire ancestry of women who had daughters. Likewise for men and siring sons.

Over a long enough period of time genetic ancestors get eliminated from that tree until you're left with just the one father of all boys and the one mother of all girls.

Of course we got some weird in vitro fertilization technology research in the works so it may not stay this way forever.

The earliest human civilizations were in the middle east around the Tigris-Euphrates. That's most likely where genetic Adam/eve come from.

You probably don't have to go back to prehistoric times to find a common ancestor with someone. The number of ancestors you have grows exponentially the farther back you go and there just haven't been enough humans ever to keep that unique.

It wasn't what I was looking for, or had read before, but apparently all the ape fossils from Africa are ~2 million years younger.

Perhaps, but the 1.5 myo one I was originally referring to had been done previously but was bigger news because they found a more complete set of remains and tested them as well.

*If you read the nature article, it refers to ancestors in Africa ~900k years ago, so that would already be in the air from the other findings.

I think this is a new explanation for die offs in human ancestry.

Child care in humans is cultural rather than instinctive. I suggest a change in culture reduced the survival rate.
