Nope more, i had one controller with drift the entire ps4 life cycle.

For ps5 i was on my 3rd controller already before i decided it would just be more time and cost effective to start cleaning them out than buy a new controller.

no, one of mine got drift after a few months

other controller has been used more than that one and is fine, so i wrote it off as just a general qc issue

Never used a PS4 controller but can't speak for that. My PS5 controller, the right stick started drifting about 7 or 8 months after I got it. Usually only starts to drift if I've been using it every day. If I don't turn the console on for a couple weeks, the controller is fine for a couple play sessions before it starts to drift again.

drift was a big problem for the PS3/360, too, as well as the N64.

it's more that cheaper and cheaper materials are being used now so drift is becoming increasingly prevalent, since they don't want to spend the few extra quarters on using hall effect sticks.

the dreamcast used those, and to this day no other controllers joysticks can match that supreme feeling of theirs.

I've never had stick drift on PS4/5 but the X button on my PS5 controller only works about 50% of the time now so I had to get a new one.
