I doubt it. But that stems from my issue with Nintendo in general. They don't fix the issues that need to be fixed and instead install an OLED screen and slightly tweak the battery life. Don't get me wrong, they are nice features, but literally all they needed to do was upgrade the ram from 4 to 8 gigs. That's literally it. It solves most of the issues modern Switch games have, as the Switch doesn't use a resource heavy operating system.

The biggest issue now is that there is competition. Now, most people won't know they are competition, but anyone with a brain would just go out and grab something like a Steam Deck or Ayaneo Odin, which are always getting updates.

I hope we get glimpses next year though. Along with a launch Mario Odyssey 2.

They're in a curious spot that the Switch is both exceedingly popular and woefully out of date compared to handheld consoles/pcs in the last few years.

A Switch 2 with Steam Deck specs would blow open their historically stingy tech budget. They haven't gambled on hardware since the Gamecube, and I doubt they ever will again.

A refresh of the same tier hardware would be years overdue, and piss off a lot of people already juggling from the Lite to the OLED versions over time.

A return to console form would be a huge risk, and could send them the way of Sega.

Become a publisher. There were rumors of a streaming service from Nintendo like five years back, but it never amounted to anything. But they have the budget for the servers and the infrastructure with a popular e-store already. They're notoriously crap at netcode, patching services, internal emulation and basically anything software though.

It better just be Switch 2.

Fully backwards compatible Isn't going to happen. Contracts are very specific with what games get released on what platforms these days in order to maximize profit. Any new system and its E-Shop has to go through another round of contract negotiations because this new system isn't in the original contract.

It's a messy system which is why we games like Tony Hawk are being remastered and rereleased rather than just ported.

I've been thinking of buying a switch in the next year or so

I'm actually not interested. I barely play my switch now. I'm seeing it more and more as a waste.

I don't think we'll see it before 25 tbh. Maybe early 25 though. I could see it being announced fall 24.

Feels like there's been a bit too much stuff out this year to already just move to a new console next year. They're gonna want to give people time to play Zelda and super mario wonder and what not before a switch 2.

The rumors I've been seeing recently have been saying it will be released next November.
