Would a leash actually stop a war robot in the first place?

Of course they are. Terrible idea and no country should do this, but of course people will do stupid things anyways because their incentives are not aligned with humanity's survival.

the military will always be at the cutting edge of technology

also why would link to altright platform x instead if the actual article?

I disagree - but only if war robots are used in place of people so nobody has to die or get maimed

TLDR: It is not a Skynet scenario. Think of meatshield robots instead of killer robots.

Honestly TC do you have a thing for war or something? First the leaked military secret in which people had to tell you that the secret was actually public document. And now 'unleash war robots'? Did you, umm, actually read the full article? Or just the X?

Here's the speech from Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks (www.defense.gov):
...weve set a big goal for Replicator: to field attritable autonomous systems at scale of multiple thousands, in multiple domains, within the next 18-to-24 months.

The Conversation, from the actual article, wrote an analysis about that. In particular:
Attritable means the robot is cheap enough that it can be placed at risk and lost if the mission is of high priority.

Attritable is used mostly as military jargon. The idea is attrition+able. Here's some more details from The National Defense Industrial Association:
https://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/articles/2022/2/9/the-meanings-of-attritable-and-expendable

I'll sum up all the reading materials here since I know TC is busy with X. Basically in regard to attritable design, we trade high precision instruments for low-cost reusable instruments, often with stripped down functionalities. Autonomous high precision robot can easily carry weapon + navigation + recon + targeting. Attritable robot carry limited equipment for surveillance/supply/rescue/etc. Since they lack the necessary modules, which are expensive, it is unthinkable for these low cost robots to carry out a precision strike.

Why attritable robots? Because we need to counter number with number. From Kathleen Hicks again:
Replicator is meant to help us overcome the PRCs biggest advantage, which is mass...
...we dont use our people as cannon fodder like some competitors do.
Well counter the PLAs mass with mass of our own...

So rather than an unstoppable army of T-850s, just picture something like strike drone + delivery drones for army supplies + surveillance drones + rescue crafts + Jar Jar Binks because why not. The enemy would now has a lot more zerg robots to deal with lol

No one was talking about building an army of killer robots. Not DoD, not The Conversation and not me.

This is a freaking military statement. If you want to interpret it, at least make sure you understand the wording and read it in full. C'mon buddy, throw me a bone here. In less than 48 hours, I've debunked your military fantasy here twice. Your apparent habit of forming a conclusion just from reading the headline definitely didn't help.

1.) Australia's robots
This is an example from The Conversation article in that tweet. Fyi The Conversation is an Australian based media.

The Australian Defence Force is today building the MQ-28 Ghostbat autonomous fast jet air vehicle, robot mechanised armoured vehicles, robot logistic trucks and robot submarines, and is already using the Bluebottle robot sailboat for maritime border surveillance in the Timor Sea.

Ghostbat, armored vehicle, truck, submarine and sailboat. Which one of those would you call a killer robot? Probably the Ghostbat right? I'm too lazy to read the news from Boeing so here's one from wikipedia:

The UAV will be designed to act as a "loyal wingman" that is controlled by a parent aircraft to accomplish tasks such as scouting or absorbing enemy fire if attacked as well as operating independently.

You see, its primary purpose is to protect the aircraft and the pilot inside. A support piece and if needed, a sacrifice. Remember this.

2.) Attritable design
Read the National Defense link. Oh heck, I'll simplify it for you. Two options:
- Cheap, low maintenance, low precision, replaceable, high in number
- Expensive, high maintenance, high precision, hard-to-replace, low in number

DoD's attritable design uses the first approach for robots. An army full of autonomous killer robots IS NOT attritable, too expensive. Also we need to consider the reason behind the design. From Kathleen Hicks again:

Replicator is meant to help us overcome the PRCs biggest advantage, which is mass...
...we dont use our people as cannon fodder like some competitors do.
Well counter the PLAs mass with mass of our own...

I think DoD's reason is obvious here but apparently not.
"We need to counter the enemy's number advantage but we don't use men as meatshield so we're gonna use robots as meatshield instead."

How about that, clear enough for you? Just like a Ghostbat, those attritable robots are support piece and if necessary, a sacrifice.

3.) Strike drone
This is my own example:
strike drone + delivery drones for army supplies + surveillance drones + rescue crafts + Jar Jar Binks because why not

Notice that unlike the other drones, I wrote 'strike drone' (singular). A single powerful strike unit surrounded by cheaper & weaker support units that also act as decoy/sacrifice for the strike unit. Why, just like a Ghostbat.

Think about it. DoD addressed a potential conflict with China. They need number, BIGLY BIG NUMBER, to absorb bullets. Do you think they would have the money for that if they chose the most expensive autonomous killer robots route?

AceMos, I honestly don't hold anything against you and I apologize if I come off as rude. But please, read before reposting.
