I see no problem with it. As a game, though, it has literally nothing to grind for or to unlock that the story missions don't flat out give you. Your end game goals are ziplines, bridges and ladders to make traversal easier. To get more money for... reasons. It's a deceptively simple game, even for a walking simulator. Kojima is such a huge personality in the game industry that it's kind of just how the brand marketing of his games work, and to him personally it speaks to his obvious desire of being a film director. And as others already mentioned, movie and tv directors do that almost all the time. "A Steven Spielberg film" is okay, but it's "pretentious" when a game developer does it.
