Better endorsements, bigger spotlight, would be a fast lifestyle. The city feels alive, 24/7, has to be a rush

It's probably easier to hide in public since there are so many people there.

It's a combination of both of these. The spotlight is as big as it gets when playing in NYC, but you can also live in virtual anonymity because of how many people in NYC don't give a shit about sports.

Whereas a place like Green Bay, where the Packers existing is basically all they have to live for.

Up to a point. Once you reach a certain salary, you're looking at the other benefits.

In the UK, football (soccer) players will sometimes go to London clubs when they could have got more money elsewhere. They want to be in the glamorous city where everything is happening.

oh really? a lot of people in nyc don't give a shit about sports, but is it really a greater percentage of their population than any other metro area?

I dunno man, the NY state taxes are kinda ridiculous compared to other places so the pay is probably around the same.

Not from the teams themselves, as (depending on the sport) most teams have the same opportunity to spend as much as they want, it's just a matter of them actually wanting to do it.

Look at the NBA. Of the top 30 highest paid players, only one plays in NY (Ben Simmons, Brooklyn).

But there is added exposure when playing in NY (or LA), and with that comes more opportunity to make money off the field. It's not as drastic as it used to be, as the sports are now global and you get exposure no matter who you play for, but there's still more opportunity off the field when playing "on the coasts".

The crazy thing is, most New York sports teams fucking stink outside of baseball and have for a long time. The knicks, nets, giants(won 2 sbs by divine intervention), jets, etc.

I think so, simply based on the sheer number of people within the city.

Both baseball teams suck too. Playing for a NY team is a joke. If you want to win go to a Boston team. People just come here for the spotlight and the nightlife.

Giants and Jets aren't New York teams since they play in Jersey.

I was seeing Aaron Rodgers is playing for the jets this year. Dude always cracks me up. His neutral expression looks like he's just disappointed in everyone around him. It could be the first play of the game and he looks like he's already disappointed in everyone.

Not even the most disappointing team in their own city. The other team has the highest payroll in the history of the game just to be the 6th worst team in the season lol

Nobody realistically thought the Mets would be great. Every year is the Yankees year. Last time they were this bad this late in the year was the mid 90s. They are most definitely the most disappointing team in the city, the state, and more than likely all of baseball.

they won 101 games last year and put out a similar team with addictions like Verlander. People absolutely thought they were going to be a good team.

That what some of the experts thought before the season started, to be a top 5 team and to compete. So stop with the damn nonsense

The Mets were a bigger disappointment than the Yankees for sure. I thought they were gonna be one of the teams to beat and a WS favorite. I knew the Yankees were gonna be bad before the season even started this year. Almost every single offensive metric said the Yankees were one of the 5 worst teams in baseball from 2021 to now and they were carried by their historic start last year and Judge having one of the greatest seasons ever to get a little boost.

Only the Yankees themselves don't see it because they're arrogant and think they're owed a spot in the playoffs. I'm a Yankees fan saying this.

Because the Mets season is over. They were playing horribly. Cohen decided to blow the team up in order to try and be competitive again in a few years instead of doubling down like the Yankees are doing.

Cohen found a way to circumvent the payroll restrictions. He offered to trade Scherzer and Verlander, pay their salaries and got back some top prospects from both teams to replenish the Mets farm system. Cohen is aiming for the Mets to be good again and competing by 2025. Of course, what he did pissed off the other owners since he bought a good farm system and there are rumors the owners will impose restrictions so that it can't happen again.

Yes, it was a very smart move. No point in trying to salvage a sinking ship. He found a way to fuck with the rules for teams who spend too much by essentially buying prospects using Verlander and Scherzer's salaries.

The Yankees should have learned from him but they didn't and are gonna end up wasting Judge and Cole's prime years since they're gonna be bad for a very long time.

New York has honestly become a way less attractive market in recent years from what I can tell.

It used to be that landing a spot on a New York team meant you were placed in a major media market that you got featured and talked about a lot. This used to be super important because of media blackouts making it so that some teams with small fantasies essentially never got on tv.

Now, that's not so much an issue outside of a few random small market teams as blackouts are way less of a barrier to watching a team with all the sports packages you can get, and the 24/7 sports news cycle means that even small market players get attention if they deserve it because the sports media world is desparate for content.
