Theres a place near me that only serves 12 people per night. You pay $125 and get a 13-course meal thats different every night based on the freshest ingredients and what the chef is looking to make

reservations are very hard to get but I happened to be looking yesterday and they had two seats available in October

never been, very excited to try it!

No, and based on those pictures and the price you mentioned, I doubt that will ever change.

Agreed. What the hell is that last picture even supposed to be? It's mostly made of wires!

Never been to one but saw videos on it.

Seems a little gimmicky, but I guess a good hustle rather than working in a chaotic restaurant kitchen. If I'm paying that much I want to get something I'm sure I'll like.

I did it once for the experience, but not something I'd do again.

Pretty gimmicky

I ate at a Japanese Kaiseki restaurant in Tokyo, and it was amazing. I think we reserved pretty close, since Kaiseki restaurants are popular but not block booked, unlike here in the west.

The restaurant itself was situated with many hashi over the steams, and we literally had a massive room to ourselves (me and a friend) -- except when the servers came in to serve the food.

Best thing about the whole thing? No need to worry about a tip.

Once, but it was like I think like 90 for 2 people, and was at an Italian resto and had like 7 or 8 courses. We had a shared salad, shared pizza, shared charcuterie board, shared lasagna, shared a half chicken, and 5 different deserts, and something else I'm forgetting, possibly a steak or something.

Overall it was among the best meals I've ever had. I know I'm a big eater, and was like, oh they're still bringing shit over. The chef comes and asks what kind of foods you like, if you like savory or sweet, and so on, then sends it out based on that. Coolest thing for me was the crepe lasagna that basically melted. It was light and fluffy, but tasted amazing.

The nice thing about this place is its super casual. Just in a normal storefront between a barbershop and an antique store, no dress code, and they have this on their FAQ which is funny to me:
We play unfiltered 90's hip hop and rap music to lighten the mood in the dining room. If this music is offensive to guests, they can quietly ask their servers and we will gladly change it to a wonderful Disney favorites mix.

Its a smores brownie served on a little wire tree. Why? Why not? They also serve stuff on hands for some reason

less than $10/course is not bad when some of those courses are also things like elk, escolar, foie gras, etc

from what Ive read you get so much food that people recommend you dont eat lunch that day.

Yes, several times a year for birthdays and wedding anniversary. Just did omakase last week. Last year did an incredible farm to table prix fixe in Scotland.
Expensive but very worth it.

I much prefer chef's choice to ordering individually at a restaurant if I can afford it. You're buying an expression of someone's art and craft instead of just a service transaction.

its also great for trying things you wouldnt normally order

like theres a 0% chance I order a vegetarian entree like a squash dish or something at a restaurant, but if its a few bites of as part of a multi-course meal I bet its delicious

or growing up in a picky midwest household Ive never tried something like snails, not sure Id want to spend a bunch of money to get a snail dish, but this is a way to try that while still having plenty of other things to eat if I dont like it
