Yeah, I had my monitor plugged into a surge protector strip and it still fried out the USB-C connectivity. I still get the max hz and resolution on it, but I have to connect through a USB-C to HDMI adapter and it can no longer do cool shit like power a laptop while displaying a second display... which is fine because I use it with a desktop now.

Just a graphics card. After a nearby lightning strike my PC started locking up while playing games and I eventually got a new GPU and it fixed it, that's how I knew it was just the GPU (luckily)

Surge protectors are your friend.
