Trout also went to the IL.

Curious how this'll affect the offseason, since he'll be entering his walk year.

Part of me wants to laugh at the Angel's misfortunes, but not Ohtani, man. This sucks for the entire sport and puts into doubt for me how long he can actually be a pitcher for.

Damn unfortunate, but unsurprising.

He's still a top tier slugger, so he'll get paid one way or another but with a 2nd TJ surgery looking very possible, his pitching career might be a diminishing return and that's going to put the kibosh on the "$500-600m" talk.

are there any other sports where the guys ever even get tommy john surgery? and it happens all the time with pitchers. maybe most pitchers get it who pitch a l ot of innings?

Pitchers are also throwing harder than ever and using many more breaking pitches than before, making TJ more likely than ever.

Really when you look at it, pitching is one of the most unnatural things the human body can do. It's a wonder more guys don't get TJ.

He also DH's on days when he doesn't pitch

jake delhomme got tommy john as QB of the panthers. and he was awful after it. plenty of pitchers have come back from a tommy john or even two to be successful tho

It still might be. I think this was always a risk teams were going to factor in when offering him a contract. I mean this year his offense alone is more than enough to guarantee him in the MVP. And he's a huge star who will draw a lot of people to the ballpark who may otherwise decide not to go.

But yeah, this sucks for everyone. Injuries are by far the biggest thing killing my enjoyment of baseball in recent years. Worst part is there's not a whole lot that can be done about it.

I think Trout just came back also, and sat the next game again. Not like the Angels are going anywhere, but Ohtani needs to stay healthy, he's good for the game and incredible to watch.
