Did you think Deion Sanders was a "tough guy" NFL football player?

(From Bleacher Report.com)

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders took exception to some of his players not joining in a skirmish during a practice earlier this week.

When an altercation broke out between offensive tackle Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan and safety Jaden Milliner-Jones after Milliner-Jones tossed running back Anthony Hankerson to the ground following a touchdown run, some Buffaloes players opted not to join the fracas.

Speaking to his team after the incident, Sanders declared "if one fights, we all fight!" "You understand that? I don't want to see you all walking off when somebody's fighting," he added. "Never again!"

No, but yes. His tackling method was pushing the dude out of bounds, but he was never into nonsense and let it show.

Yeah, never the most physical guy. But tough enough. I don't know if I saw this in him though.

Never into nonsense? Nonsense was kind of his thing. Trying to play for two teams in different sports who were playing in different parts of the country? Dumping water on a reporter because his mommy didnt like what was said? The whole Neon Deion persona?

Hes a fantastic player, but he was also kind of a butthead.

Different interpretations of nonsense. And yes, absolutely a butthead. I mean, he told maybe the Giants that he didnt even want to interview with them because they had a later pick in the draft.

He was just about the opposite of a tough guy: flamboyant, dramatic, and cultivated a persona that screamed desperation for attention.

Unbelievable athlete though, his entire career until he wound down with the Redskins was great.

I actually thought he was defensible, if not 100% justified dumping the water on McCarver. That was some "get off my lawn" shit.

He didnt come off as a tough guy, but at the same time, Im not sure you can be a cornerback in the NFL without being a tough guy.

Sanders was doing the two sport thing. I was never a fan of it but it was a thing then. Bo Jackson, Jordan and maybe 1 or 2 others.

It just worked out that Deion's baseball team made the World Series while his football team (Falcons) was also playing a regular season game. On the same day.

Deion played the full football game, then (IIRC) flew to play in the WS. He was a decent baseball player (unlike Jordan, not as good a Bo though, IMO).

McCarver began calling him out days before the games, as soon as Deion announced he would play in both games if it came to that. Really lead the charge, criticizing "Primetime" and Deion's whole schtick.

When Deion's team won the WS, they did the "Gatorade bath" thing. Deion saw McCarver in the locker room during the celebration. Grabbed a Gatorade bucket (or 2 or 3) and dunked McCarver repeatedly. Probably available on YouTube.

AFAIK, there were high fives across the country.

Ditka won a Superbowl. Deion has only been a head coach for two years at Jackson State. He ain't no Ditka.

Lol Deon aint tough lmao!

it was a running joke around Atlanta that he cared more for himself than putting his body on the line to win. Not taking anything away from him, if I were a player Id have played like him to (smart) but it is very double standard for him to be preaching this kind of toughness when he never showed it on the field (in baseball or football)

I dont remember what the guy said as being that inflammatory. Deion himself said he did it because his mommy called him crying over it. His mommy was being a bit dramatic.

Dunked him repeatedly? Most of the water missed.

I can't remember McCarver not being inflammatory. IMO, there was no reason to call out playing in both sports, if other players were already doing it. Seemed somewhat personal.

It was run of the mill sports commentary stuff. Deion should have blown it off considering worse things were being said about him. His team lost to Toronto that year. Never won a world series.

You're correct it was NLCS, not WS. I support his response to McCarver though.
