Truxton was a fantastic Shmup, especially for like, 1989. Bit of a hidden gem on the Genesis, though of course it was also an arcade title and it game out for the PC Engine too. YES! One of my cousin's had it at their house when I was in elementary. I don't think I ever paid attention to the title at all, and have been wondering if it was an Americanized Raiden game for the past 15 years or so.
