So the other day I was like "I feel like playing some FFX" for whatever reason. So I loaded up my old file from when I did that big series playthrough like 9 years ago. So I already had the celestial weapons and sigils which I do remember doing that, I already captured 10 of every enemy apparently, which I don't remember doing that, but everything is unlocked in the arena. I got everyone a 3 slot triple AP weapon from One Eye, put AP -> Overdrive and Double or Triple Overdrive on everyone's weapons. I've been grinding AP in the arena using the Don Tonberry trick to get everyone all around the board, which I'm almost done with that process, just need to get Khimari and Lulu finished up which I will do today. So I think my next step after that is grind stat spheres, which this is what I'm not sure about. What stats am I supposed to be aiming for to fight the endgame superbosses like Nemesis and Penance? Am I supposed to clear +1/+2/+3 stat spheres and replace them with +4? Do I need to fill every single empty slot with a +4 sphere? I've heard that instead of getting accuracy and I think it was evasion spheres, I should replace them all with Luck, but considering how long it takes to get a single Luck sphere I don't know if that's worth it?

Honestly all you need is Yojimbo, plenty of gil, and some good old-fashioned rng. (I kid)

Nah, you'll be fine. You got this. If you can raid in FFXIV on Blu, you can handle X's superbosses.

IIRC youre supposed to use stat-boosting abilities repeatedly during those fights to boost your in-battle stats beyond the maximum anyway. Forget if you need maxed stats on top of that or if it just makes the process quicker.

How much money would I need to give Yojimbo? >_> I finished getting everyone across the entire sphere grid and started grinding stat spheres. Maxed Strength on everyone, started going for Magic. Oh boy, grinding Magic spheres is horrible. I got 5 in like an hour. And I need another like 20.

I think his odds of success taper off after 63556 gil, give or take? I'd have to look it up, but it's still not a guaranteed win. Also you'd need Yuna to strike first in combat.

Correction, it's 65,536 gil. And that's after you max out his affinity by using him more (and paying him handsomely for his services every time). Once he is at 255 Affinity, which is not shown on any status window, you can pay the aforementioned amount, and his odds of using Zanmato--insta-killing anything as long as that's its only form--will be at their highest.

Got Strength, Defense, Magic, Magic Defense, Agility, Accuracy and Evasion to 255 on everyone. I don't think it would be worth it to grind Luck and Fortune Spheres, cus I think I would need like 400 Fortune Spheres total? And it takes like 90 seconds to get 2 Fortune Spheres. That aint worth it.

Made perfect 4-slot accessories for everyone yesterday, and went to the Omega Ruins to fight Omega Weapon. Wow that was ridiculously easy. I went in with Tidus, Rikku, Kimahri, started with Kimahri using Lancet to learn Nova, which got me the trophy for all blue magic spells. Then I just use Mug until he ran out of items, and spammed Quick Hit until he died. He didn't even get a single attack off. Today I'm going to fill out the sphere grid with random crap to hopefully get the trophy for "completing the sphere grid on all characters" whatever that means. Then I'll fight Nemesis and if that goes well, I'll start taking on the Dark Aeons.

Got the Perfect Sphere Master trophy \o/ didn't need to do that just felt like doing it. So next I want to fight Nemesis, then the Dark Aeons and Penance. Nemesis isn't unlocked yet, so I'm gonna go down the list one by one and make sure I've killed one of everything, already did 5 categories, I'll finish it up tomorrow and fight Nemesis.

Oh apparently you don't need to kill every enemy for Nemesis, just the bottom 3 categories. Well that makes things simpler.

Killed Nemesis, Dark Valefor, Dark Ifrit, Dark Ixion twice, Dark Shiva, Dark Magus Sisters, killed Dark Yojimbo 4 times, didn't know where to go, thought I had to follow him out of the cave but that's the wrong thing to do. Tried Dark Bahamut for like an hour and couldn't even get close. Haven't tried Dark Anima yet.

I've heard that maxing out Magic isn't necessary, because it scales really poorly at high levels and you're mainly going to be using Quick Hit to attack.

Penance is bullshit. I did it once legit but second time I used yojimbo. I didn't think I used or paid him enough yet he came in and did it for me.

Penance is one of those fights I'll say it's perfectly acceptable to take the easy way out. From what I recall you need the quick hits ability. Without that I don't think you can win. Then it's just timing and following a precise routine. But it's frustrating and stupid and more stupid than challenging.

Yeah, a precise routine sounds like FFX in a nutshell, and the superbosses of X somehow dial that up to 11. Cheese becomes acceptable in the presence of such... ham.

So its been like a decade since I played X-2, and maybe it's explained, but what exactly was Leblanc's plan in the opening mission? She stole Yuna's garment grid, and a dress that doesn't belong to Yuna, but makes her look like Yuna when she wears it, to put on a pop show? Why.

As a kid, I remember being stuck in a catch 22 for how to get stronger.

I played the remaster years later and it was a specific arena drop I had to get that cracked the postgame puzzle for me.

I might be remembering wrong, but she was possessed by the memory of the girl inside that sphere?

It took like 10 hours over multiple play sessions to get three chocobos capable of getting to level 5. Each character gained like 25 levels. Mastered multiple jobs. Hundreds of thousands of Gil obtained. And now I have the fun task of sending the birds out, hoping they come back, leveling them up, repeating until Clasko opens the maze. x_x

Actually there is a video on YouTube that let's you use Zamato every time. Saved my bacon and saved a lot of grinding.

Its fine if this is just a personal hobby project or something but for myself I prefer to just use Steam cheat engine to get around tens of hours of pointless grinding bullshit. I'd still do the boss fights or whatever but what actual satisfaction is there in grinding like 3294238943284382 gil like a desperately inefficient bot?

I like grinding to a degree. if I can grind for an hour or two at various points in the game and be much stronger than you need, cool. Then at the end I may grind to level 100 or whatever the max is if feasible.

What I don't like are the games where 1-2 hours grinding is maybe one level, and getting to max level is a dang marathon

This is more or less why I prefer pc gaming over console, these days. Cut those 50-70 hours of mindless grinding, and end up with 30-35 hours of actual, you know, game. If the grind was only a couple hours here or there, I wouldn't mind anywhere as much.

Yeah that chocobo hunting I did? Did not work. Clasko opened the Fiend Den. He did not open the maze, and I did every step correctly. It wouldn't take long to get a couple more chocobos and try it again since I have so many at each level, but just god damn what a stupid quest.
