Question about scotch

I normally like dark liquors, but one time I had some Jonny Walker Gold Label scotch, and to this day it's some of the nastiest liquor I've had. Is all scotch like that, or is it just that brand?

Still regret not buying the Black Label bottle that day...

Not at all. Scotch from different isles have different flavors. Personally I love Islay scotch but it can be the most divisive type. Smokey peat, oil, and sea salt are common flavors of it.

Johnnie Walker Black Label. It's a bit spicier than Bourbon but less bitter and does down easier.

Black Label use to be my main purchase.

Now I grab Chivas Regal 12.

I coulda sworn like a decade plus ago several users did it on here, but I could very well be misremembering.

If it was just one dude doing it cause they were Muslim I somehow missed that entirely. Seemed like it was a group of people doing it mostly just to troll/bait.

People dramatically underestimate how smooth whiskey can get.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/1/8/AARLwzAAEveK.jpg

That shit goes down easier than any scotch I've ever had. Can basically drink it like it was wine that's how smooth it is.

Solid choice.

Personally it depends on mood, the complexity of the peaty Islays is great, but sometimes I want the clean taste of the Highlands.

I prefer single grain and especially single malt, but blended Scotch can still be good.

Walkers new Rye is pretty damn solid for the price.

Jim Beam was the first thing I ever tasted.

I would sneak a taste when I was like 9 or 10 using the cap as a shot glass.

Thought it tasted like some chemical.

Obviously I wasn't getting the full palate of it all.

Or what sucks or doesn't.

Also Luksusowa is a very-very fine Vodka for it's price.

Fair, I might be being a bit of a spirit snob there.

Plenty of good single malt spirit goes into the blends after all.

I feel ya. Im a bit of a spirit snob, too, but I also try to keep it real/honest (not saying you dont) instead of falling for hype. JW is definitely overrated in the general public (I dont get the hype for Blue Label) and a lot of expensive stuff is just so because its rare.

Spirits, wine, beer each have a lot of less-informed drinkers hopping on hype trains (Im not referring to you here, just a thought Ive had).

Fair, I don't generally drink blended tbh.

Probably there are some good ones (after all Brandys are all blended). Could never buy into the Chivas Regal hype though, so much money for a blend :)

In reality there's quite a lot to enjoy from the various whiskey heritages.
