Well that amounts to the same thing. If GameFAQs doesn't keep closed accounts around but automatically deletes them instead then of course they should allow someone else to take the username. Nobody made GameFAQs make that change after all.

They usually do, but there's an exception for usernames of previously banned or closed accounts. Those usernames aren't truly purged, but are "reserved" so a different person can't request that username.

If DR met those criteria, it shouldn't have been possible for someone else to request her username in the first place. Is it possible that she herself created the new account?

Automatic deletion or just deletion period? I'm not saying people shouldn't be able to outright delete their accounts, but there's no way that process ever should have been automated.

Also I just checked on a username I know the original person also fully deleted and that username has randomly been remade a few months ago (which is years after it was closed/deleted). No karma though and hasn't been seen since shortly after the account was created.

There's a time limit needed to comply. Whether it's automatic or not it's irrelevant but there's serious fines for not getting it done on time. Automatic is the safest way to do it to keep the workload low for staff.

i will agree that i don't think DR did anything worth getting banned or otherwise losing her account over, it warrants more of a community judgment

What are you guys saying? That she's currently being unfairly suspended right now? How do we even know that's her? I thought it was a different person taking the name since it was deleted and if that's so then that'd be impersonation which is a bannable offense.

If that is her recreating her account then at this point it would be considered abusing the system to close, unclose, close, delete and remaking her account. Goats was known to be doing similar shit and got canned for it.

I mean it's not like you are accidentally navigating to the deletion form and completing it. If someone is deleting their account it's on purpose and they should live with the consequences.

That policy was still in effect in 2020. DR's account was recently deleted, so it automatically shouldn't have been allowed.
