I spent 10 minutes trying to find out what kind of game it is, and I got frustrated. What is this game most like?

A semi-locked story game but with a big world (like FF15), a big world but with a main plot and lots of side quests (like Witcher 3), or is it like just a big world with a meh on story and focuses more on the big world itself (like Skyrim)? Or something completely different?

It's about a man named John Baldur and his passion for gates. You play as John Baldur as you go on quests, defeat monster and collect treasure so that you can one day build the grandest gate the world has ever seen.

From the trailer I watched a while back, the initial premise is that mind flayers - a race of Cthulhu lookalikes that eat brains - are up to some shit. They put their elder brain, the center of their society, in a magic spaceship and started attacking other people.

You character is captured before the start of the game. Mind flayers reproduce by putting one of their tadpoles in someone's brain. It eats the brain and takes its place. You get one of these little tadpoles in your head.

I say initial premise because it's a hundred hour RPG, so I imagine some shit happens after that.

It doesn't hurt to but no, you do not. Its basically all self contained. It uses the ruleset but lucky for you its holding your hand the whole time. Its not like trying to build a character using the rule books or anything.

You can understand the game by playing and it'll give you details of what spells, abilities, and even how the dice rolling works. Its also using a rule set that is so easy to get into which has helped so many new players come into tabletop.

The game is basically a strategy rpg where you travel the realm trying to find out how to get rid of this space tadpole from your head and you do quests along the way. I'd say its a little more like Witcher in fantasy.

if you ever played Dragon Age Origins, I think that's the best way to describe it. Strategy rpg with romance options and customizable character. A lot of your actions have consequences if you're into that kind of thing and I'd say run in blind and just enjoy the game.

Also, for me, its a little difficult but I'm doing a little better. I joke around that its difficult because I used to DM for my old group and my combats were always a little hard because I was terrible at making a balanced combat lol.

If you like cRPGs like the old Dragon Age Origins, more recent things like Wasteland 3, Pillars of Eternity, or Divinity Original Sin, you should enjoy it.

Combat is turned based, more like Divinity, Wasteland, or XCOM series. Outside of combat, there's a ton of dialogue and companions like the older Bioware games. There are a lot of options in how you approach many situations in the game. Both in and out of combat.
