I was gonna do a 2 hander human fighter like in EA but decided on a dragonborn ranger. Shame you can't name your companion.

I enjoyed my 24-ish hours of the Early Access a bunch. I won't have much more of an opinion on the overall thing till I beat it though. The class variety is nice enough since they have all but one of the DnD 5E classes in here(though some fan favorite subclasses didn't make it in), and I like the extra dialogue you might see specific to your background/race/class.

The game takes place about 120 years from BG2 so you don't need to be familiar with the original 2. From what I can tell it has a few cameos, including a companion from the past games, but nothing that requires you to play them. Gameplay wise BG3 is much much closer to DOS2 than any of the infinity engine baldur games so if you're familiar with Larian past game you'll be at home here for the most part. If you're familiar with crpgs you'll find this pretty enjoyable imo.
