I've always thought Seth Rogen might not be too bad in the role.

He's Jewish, his natural voice is somewhat gravelly and would work well for post transformation Thing, and Ben Grimm's usually pretty funny. Just don't have him laugh, it's too distinctive, and he'd be weird visually pre-transformation.

Part of me would love to see John Goodman play The Thing.

He'd probably never survive the shoot though. In any event he lost a lot of weight.

I think Seth Rogen lost his chance to be in any MCU movie when he called them "kids movies."

I'm guessing this was before he took on the role of Donkey Kong in the Mario movie? Then again, this probably would have been after he voiced a blob in the kids movie monsters versus aliens.

I highly doubt that. Ethan Hawke had said some pretty critical things of superhero movies and still ended up in Moon Knight.

I'm all for body positivity, but they shouldn't mess with Thing's iconic physique like that. They should choose a character for whom being ripped isn't a central character point -- or at least a character who isn't famous enough for people to care. Make Strong Guy fat.

I hope this is just the internet blowing smoke. It seems weird that they would announce that Galactus is Latino and Thing is heavy without actors attached to either role.

This is the part of Hollywood I hate, they act like the race or gender is the most important part of a character. On topic, why not to all out and cast the mountain as The Thing? That'd be awesome

I think his issue was that MCU "acts like they aren't kids movies when they are" or something like that. He's fine being in kids movies that are upfront about being kids movies. He produced the new TMNT after all and has a role in it.

If Disney announced that Rogue would be Black in the X-Men reboot, that would generate a ton of speculation that Keke Palmer would be playing the role since she wanted it. With Rogue being a Southern character, the race change could add a new dimension to the character.

With a big armored guy who floats around the universe eating planets, I fail to see how announcing the ethnicity in advance could have any bearing on the character's development. It'd be like if the next Transformers movie announced that Unicron would be LGBTQ.

Okay, it wasn't Disney themselves. It was some social media outlet that knew Antonio Banderas would be Galactus and Jack Black would be Thing.

It's still a weird thing to announce regardless of whether or not it was Disney specifically.

I guess if they signed a nondisclosure agreement, that would account for not saying who the actors were. But I would think that giving away ethnicity or body type would also fall under that.

It's like walking out of a courtroom saying, "She was murdered by a fat white dude."

When the Kingpin says that he's 400 lb. of muscle, some of that is most certainly fat. Thing is all granite. That doesn't look "fat" to me. You're right. It is bulk, but bulk doesn't necessarily mean fat.

Well, I only said "muscle-fat" because that was the term you used. "Bulk" works, yeah. The point is he has never really had that like, John Cena-esque physique. He's mostly just been... Big/bulky.
