My brother, who literally keeps his car empty, got it broken into.

Like some dumb POS was out in the middle of the night, punching windows to gain what? No fucking sensible person is leaving a phone or some shit in there. That's the only bright side I could make of it: we haven't sunk so low in life to be that pathetic.

The concept is stupid. Robbing a store, because it's stocked with current merchandise, I kinda get from a....high stakes/profit model thief perspective. Robbing someone's car and their personal stuff? Like are you hoping someone will just appear and put you out of your misery?

The Bay Area brewed up their own mess threw the years. The shift towards the tech boom and limited considerations for lower-income residents pushed people into this form of unrest. Add the politics with the police, and some places probably just made bigger enemies out of them.

At least prowling cars makes some modicum of sense in that you ostensibly might get something by doing it.

Here in Seattle we're having an uptick of people throwing bricks or rocks at cars on motorways.

It's been really hard to rent a car lately. Places are literally out of stock completely.
A friend recently had one reserved at the airport car rental, only to get there and they had "no cars" and had to wait for hours for one to be returned.

I wonder if all these broken into rental cars in CA are driving a nationwide shortage? It wasn't like this even a year ago, at peak chip shortage era.

Back when I was working graveyard shifts I would resort to not only having my car empty of anything but I'd even leave the glove compartment open with it empty. Once I started doing that people stopped breaking into the car while I was working. Wish cops would actually work on this problem but they're far too busy setting up speed traps in the industrial area that has a road that's designed like a highway with no pedestrians anywhere nearby but has a speed limit of only 50 km/h.
