...to make a constitutional ammendment to the state legislature, you need 60 perc. for it to be ammended, will pass? iirc the vast majority of the people in ohio support abortion rights. The vote on 60 perc. is supposed to be heavily tied to abortion rights iirc

The issue is polling about even. If it passses the new signature requirements make it impossible for citizens to put anything on the ballot in the future anyway.

Im torn on the principle of it however its brought by shitty people and for a shitty purpose.

to those not in the know Ohio currently allows voters to change the Constitution with a simple majority vote(50%+1) at the polls. Well, coming up in November is a vote to codify abortion into state law which is polling at 55-58%. So the state republicans decided to bring about an amendment two months prior to this to change it to 60% of the vote needed to make a change.

The "Yes on Issue 1" campaign has flooded the airwaves with garbage to cause outrage and mobilize Socially Conservative people who have little knowledge of the ballot-initiative process. I will be voting NO on Issue 1 to keep the ballot initiative process the way it is.

I'm in a suburban area of Ohio. I'm on NextDoor and folks in my area are about 50/50 on Issue 1. Most of the users are over age 60.

The "Vote Yes" ads are disgusting. They literally say that voting "No" means that kindergarten will teach "trans idealogy" and other bullshit

This bill isn't about abortion, it's about stripping rights away from all Ohio citizens. The right paints it as an abortion issue to get their base to vote against theirselves as Ohio citizens.

Iirc the same governor eliminated parts of early voting citing cost before approving this costly special ballot ahead of the general election.

I'm talking about Issue 1 where they want to make ballot initiatives take 60% to pass and increase signature requirements to 88 counties from 44. The Conservatives keep making ads full of lies to get Issue 1 to pass. To get signatures in 88 counties is almost impossible.

It doesn't help that some of the vote no ads fell into the trap of also making it about abortion, instead of focusing on citizen initiated ballot measures being all but destroyed.
