I've drank 2 gallons of beer in a day before. I think it amounts to about 21 regular sized cans.

It's not a feat that I can accomplish all the time though.

it's fine if you are active in this extreme summer heat. i wouldn't drink that much water just sitting at a desk or on a couch but seems ok if you are sweating

Didn't a woman actually die from doing that a few years ago?

Unless you're doing (extreme) physical labor in (extreme) heat, you don't really need that much water in a day and if you're not evenly spacing it out, you run the risk of flushing out nutrients your body needs.

Even a gallon a day can be a little much depending on your activity level.

If you're referring to what I think you are, she drank almost 2 gallons of water over a timeframe of about 3 hours but didn't urinate because she was participating in a contest to win a Nintendo Wii. She died later that same day due to water intoxication. 2 gallons over the course of a day with frequent urination is probably fine.

That's a bit excessive unless you are doing really strenuous activity that makes you lose a lot of water. Like a lot of biking, running etc.

The kidneys can generally process something like a liter of water every hour, so that's a gallon every four hours.
