One of the things that made Google so successful is that at a time when Yahoo and other search engines had front pages loaded with widgets and news and things that took forever to load, Google was the only search engine that was just a blank page and loaded instantly.

It was slower than a slide show sometimes.

I remember wanting to watch and listen to music videos and this streaming site had just started. I think it was called "Launch." They uploaded a shit load of music videos and even ranked the music videos week to week and each day.

I remember one of the first music videos I watched was Nickel Back's, "How You Remind Me" and it was super pixelated, but I thought it was amazing to watch a music video on my computer.

I don't know if people remember this late 90s early 00s game, but it was an MSN game and the host of the game would call a celebrity and you and the celebrity would face off in a quiz type game. As a kid I was like wtf!? I was like am I really chatting with the celebrity? I can't remember the name of the game though.

My first time on the net was downloading Hero Editor for D2. 5 mb, took hours to DL.

For a school research project, I remember clicking a link, leaving to watch a show, and then coming back during the commercial break to read it. Not that I needed a full 10 min for it to load, but that it was long enough that I did not view it as a good use of my time to wait and watch it load.

That was the benefit for sure.
We had a basketball hoop we would shoot on when waiting for songs or pictures to download.

As much as i like internet speeds being faster, I'd rather them be more...optimized.

lol! I remember it taking 5+ minutes to download a single image.

This was some time later but I'll never forget it. I was in an AOL chat room and some guy was asking people for names of songs. Every time someone threw out a name he would say "Yep, it's on there!"
I finally asked him what he was doing and he emailed me a Napster beta. My mind was blown!. I went out to a bar that night and told everyone I met about it. Literally no one understood what I was talking about or how big it was or would be. They would just say something along the lines of "you must really be into computers, huh?" Different times.

I remember getting a 56k modem and being like Whoa! An mp3 used to take an hour to download and now it only takes ten minutes!
