With all these dinosaurs in congress passing laws for a future they wont be a part of, what would you say is reasonable. Myself Id like to say 65-70 just so they can get a grasp on how they cant depend on a good paying job forever and get some empathy for retirees...but we know politicians dont work like that. So on cognitive decline alone Id say no more than 70.

Since the medical world is lowering the numbers on everything in our blood tests, blood pressure, etc, on what's considered healthy now, they should lower the age limit for politicians as well. 60 I say.

If it were possible to have a process for rigorous cognitive testing after a certain age and not have it corrupted by brides and partisan hackery, I'd much rather have that than a hard numerical cut-off. Otherwise, idk like 75?

I want to say 50, but I'll be generous and say social security retirement age. So between 65 and 67 depending on when they were born.

60, for their health, and the purpose of maintaining people in power that are more in touch with modern reality, it's citizens, and not clinging to policies that haven't worked for 30+ years. We don't need the majority of our modern government running things like we are still in the 70s and 80s because that's how it worked for them.

Being old doesn't make you a bad politician. Looking around, I don't see that being younger makes you good one.

You think the Republican Party will be better when Greene, Boebert, Gaetz, Hawley, and co. take charge?

Policies, not age.

While it's not 100%, there's definitely a correlation between being more in touch with modern thoughts the younger you are, as opposed to being older.

Seems reasonable

you can be elected at 64 and serve out your term but cant be elected at 65+

Its no more arbitrary than the minimum ages of 25, 30, and 35 for the house, senate, and presidency, respectively

What does that actually mean in terms of policy and getting things done, though? It's just such a vague statement: what is 'modern thought'?

You think they're going to 'understand' the internet and social media better? Be more concerned about climate change? Be less traditionalist in outlook? Be more sympathetic to the struggles of the young?

Nah. Look at them.

You can no longer run for any office once you are 70. You can finish out your term if you turn 70 during it.

For appointed positions in the judiciary at any level, you must retire at 70.

Also, the Light Duty is only ever implied, but it is obvious.

It's actually one of my least favorite parts of Boomerdem.

But we have a bunch of elected officials in their 30s and 40s who viewpoints on social issues are aggressively traditionalist and regressive.

The idea that getting rid of the old duffers will usher in a new era of dynamic change is wishful thinking.

It should still be left to the voters to decide when a candidate is too old.

I know with the current system it can feel like you're railroaded into voting for someone who's too old because the other option is worse, but that's better fixed with something like ranked-choice voting than an age limit to run for office.

65, adjust accordingly as life expectancy goes up

On a side note, it's funny we're such a dumb populace we have to set limits instead of simply not electing these ghouls. Really shows how unfair the election system really is when young people can't get a foot in the door.
