Ive been putting this anime off for literally years. I know there is an insane amount of episodes to watch. How much filler is there? Is it bad? Do I need to find a filler list to avoid those episodes?

Comparably low amounts of filler in contrast to something like Naruto or Bleach. I think it's something like 10 percent or so. A bulk of it is within the first 250 episodes or so.

It's not super filler heavy but it takes a couple of arcs to really get going before it gets more interesting.

My biggest knock on the anime is that later years really drag things out to sometimes unbearable degrees but that doesn't really become a consistent thing until after the 600 episode mark. Also have some bones about some of the stylistic choices employed by the studio during the last couple of arcs but again, loooooooong way from the start.

Good to know it wont really get going until later arcs. As for the style choice. That is what turned me off right from the beginning. Ive also seen some crazy character designs from the show Im not a fan of but I guess Ill tough it out. I have no idea who those characters are but they look really weird. Off the wall type shit

Filler that is outright filler is rare. It's only about 10%, which is very light for a current, long running Shonen like this. Bleach and Naruto run at about 40%, and Dragon Ball is at about 15%.

Instead of the traditional kind of filler, where brand new scenarios and stories are cooked up by people who isn't the manga author to fill gaps, OP mostly relies on wasting time and extending stuff. What is 3 quick and fast paced panels in the manga is a meandering 30 seconds in the anime. Several moments which are made punchy and impactful by seeing the windup to something, then turning the page and seeing the results of it are made much weaker in the anime where you see a drawn out sequence of the thing being performed, with cutaways and crap.

I'd go so far as to call the anime a bastardisation.
