I can't believe they have Clive beat Ultima literally using the power of love and friendship.

Also why the fuck would they have such an ambiguous-ass ending when they've already said they have like an 18-month (or something) plan for this game when it comes to post-release content.

The fight with Ultima was underwhelming, but not because of the "love and friendship" thing. That felt thematic and in-character.

But yeah, the ambiguous ending sucked. I loved most of the story, but they dropped the ball with the last 5% of it.

That's the conclusion I came to at first, but some people brought arguments that made sense to me: Clive lived and wrote about his story using Joshua's name as a tribute, given that some sidequests imply that Clive may take up writing a book when everything is finished. The director said that every detail in sidequests and otherwise has a purpose and is meant to be taken into consideration by the end.

Because it's 100% possible that book was written by Clive using Joshua as a pen name. There's enough clues dropped in the game that this can't be ruled out.

It's also 100% possible neither of them survived and that book was written by The Undying.

Where did you hear this from? They literally were planning on just making this game without DLC until last week >_>

I dunno if this image is large enough but yes, its heavily implied that Clive survives and writes the book.

its so fans can argue about if Clive lived or died for the rest of time. but that ending was 11/10 for me. Clive says this is Final Fantasy and punches god in the face.

It was something about "sales plans" for long after release, but he said nothing about DLC at that point.

However, recently there was an interview where he saw the reception for the game and people wanting DLC, so he's considering it.

At the end of the day if there isn't story-related DLC I'd be completely shocked, unless there's none simply because this game ends up getting a sequel.

I mean there's a goddamn entire missing Eikon that never actually gets solved >_>

Want to bump this topic cause yeah this is how I felt. I thought the ending was great and that Final Fantasy line and then ending with a face punch of 99999 damage was just a hilarious bit of fan service that I loved.

I enjoyed the ending heavily. I figured the two boys, one being older with dark hair and one younger with blonde, was also a hint that he survived. Joshua seemed gone, he tried but failed, and even said damn guess I'm not that powerful still.

Also that brotherly montage had me teared up like a son of a bitch. Maybe cause I'm a younger brother and enjoy a good relationship with mine it just hit harder.
