[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

It gets a bad rep because it's ignorant to promote.

Being overweight puts you at a higher risk of diseases including but not limited to diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers.

Just because you can contract disease being underweight or even normal weight, doesn't change certain things definitely up your risk. Being overweight is one of them. The idea that there is no such thing as a healthy/unhealthy weight is bad to promote.

Within reason, yes.

I do think people on both sides of the isle here go to idiotic extremes though. That said, it's not same thing both sides, the "no" side often gets FAR more hateful and terrible than even the most extreme of the "yes" side.

In the link, there is more than one thing.

There is a causal relationship between obesity and exercise.

While the grander point may be that the lack of good food sources and opportunities for physical activity result in obesity, the end result is that obese individuals are far more likely to develop other negative health conditions.

As a side note, the body positive movement would also work in reverse where we shouldn't judge individuals who are at an unhealthy weight, but still find ways to encourage then to gain back to a healthy weight.

am I misunderstand 'Healthy At Every Size'?

Yes, you did.

The original phrase lacks a "y"; it's about protesting the cultural shittiness in healthcare services where people are getting blown off and abused for being overweight even when they came to get help with a completely unrelated and treatable problem.

It's not saying "be as fat as you want it's always fine lolololol". That's some right wing parody shit that everyone fell for.

I agree with some parts of it but not all. People shouldn't be bullied for their weight, no matter what, and we all realize a lot of stuff is actually toxic but framed as wanting to help people when that clearly isn't it.

It is possible to be fat and healthy of course with exercise. But some people are just really fat and not healthy at all and they should be encouraged to lose weight(in an actual positive way).

I didn't "do it again."

Everything you are saying is irrelevant.

Being overweight puts one at a higher risk of diseases including but not limited to diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers. It is not healthy regardless if you (regardless of YOUR weight) does something else to make yourself malnourished/unhealthy.

You and your situation is irrelevant to being overweight literally puts one at a higher risk. It is literally more taxing on the body.

No one said you can't do other things to make yourself unhealthy. Should we also stop saying smoking cigarettes is unhealthy because not everyone dies an early death and you can get lung cancer from other things like asbestos? You are talking complete nonesense.

Not treating fat people like shit is a good message. The few who act like being big is totally fine health-wise are a relative small number I would imagine. On one hand I do feel the movement majorly favors women than men though and we barely get any support on that level. On the other hand women get more scrutiny for their weight anyway so it sort of "evens out" in a sense. I'm sure I'll be accused of being incel-ish for that comment.

Do I believe in what it stands for? Not completely. Im all for not bullying people based on their appearance, but the whole thing of vilifying people who arent attracted to bigger people and glorifying being unhealthy not so much.

Within reason. I'm a bigger guy myself. I'm 285 at 5'10. That's about as high as I think people should be for someone around my height. Men and Women don't need to be 120-180 lbs, but at the same time, they shouldn't be creeping close to 400 lbs at 6 feet tall. You can still eat unhealthy foods now and then as long as you do it in moderation.

I eat fairly unhealthy but I still move during the day, not as much as I probably should, but I'm in recovery right now after surgery, so it'll be a couple months before I'm able to get back down to 250.

you disproved the 'healthy at any weight' thing with your first post. obese or underweight can be unhealthy and some weights are always unhealthy. if someone is 500 pounds and shorter than like 7'5 or 80 pounds and taller than like 4 feet they are unhealthy.

anyway there is a difference in saying someone shouldn't be ridiculed for their weight and actually spreading misinformation. if someone pushes 'healthy at any weight' they are pushing misinformation and that shit should be shut down immediately. also anyone trying to bully people about their weight should also be shut down.
