I heard about this case. I heard that the parents were hoping to receive about 15 million dollars. It's a shame that that little girl got second degree burns and caused that much damage to her flesh. Who knew a chicken nugget can do something like that.

This kind of goes both ways. Restaurant should always consider the safety of not only their selves but also customers. Any hot food served to a toddler should always be checked in my opinion.

The thing here is the degree of mistake on the part of the parents is almost nonexistent compared to the degree of negligence by Mcdonalds. Same as in the Hot Coffee lawsuit.

Second degree burns happen around 130f. This nugget was thought to be served at around 200f.

I'm guessing there was still some burning oil on it or something. Either way, everyone in here joking about how frivolous this is or how they want their nuggets this hot is kinda messed up. That's hotter than most coffee and just look at the pictures if you still think this is frivolous or whatever.

Shit like this is why Mcdonalds should've been hit with a second lawsuit in the 90s. They smeared the poor woman up and down in the media, BLATANTLY lying, but because she was old and exhausted she didn't want to do another lawsuit. There should be SOME organization that has the option to pursue lawsuits like that without the victim's involvement, and it should've been made a crime to use a significant media presence to knowingly and maliciously spread misinformation.

You realize that is only if mcdonald's keeps on putting food out there that is far too hot, right?

Serving someone hot food isn't the same as handing a child some 200 degree mcnuggets. Go look at the pictures and figure out if you could easily do that to someone for "an easy payday" with your average fries.

"Dangerously hot levels"

Because boiling hot oil isn't already dangerous. Come on guys, if the oil temperature was hotter than it should be the nugs and fries would be coming out looking like leather.

It's obvious that it was a high volume day and they didn't put the nugs into the transfer bin long enough for the excess oil to drip off.

And I'm guessing the poor girl grabbed a nug, went "oh fuck ow" and dropped it between herself and the seat belt.

Yes. The machines temperatures are set and the timers are set. The act of cooking them is dump in basket, hit button, wait for obnoxious sound, and remove from fryer. If they're left in even a minute too long you end up with rocks.

But you should also be dumping them into a transfer bin and agitating them to help the oil drip off.

Well, tbf sunburns can be second degree. Think I got one of those myself just a couple weeks ago. But yeah, fair point. I meant like normal, non-sun-related burns. But I suppose it's academic anyway, I saw what I think were the pictures of the burn and it looked pretty severe. I've had a lot of second degree burns in my life, but nothing that bad.

Compared to the guilt Mcdonalds has here the guilt by the parents is practically nonexistent. The parents should've checked for the COMFORT of the child but there is absolutely zero reason for them to need to check for the SAFETY of the child unless Mcdonalds is doing something horribly wrong.

That is one of the worst apples to oranges if you're coming up with a gun analogy.

I don't think you understand what it means to be a parent. Safety should always be a factor when parents keep eye on their kids when getting food. Doesn't matter if it's McDonald's, Burger King, etc... That's why I don't feel bad for the parents. Because they're just as guilty as McDonald's with this whole thing. You get hot food, it's going to be fucking hot as soon as you get it. You warn your kids, no matter how young they are, on that.

I don't think you understand either how sue happy America is. And it's not because of "corporate propaganda." People will do stupid things intentionally to earn a quick buck from companies. I also said the parents didn't do this intentionally despite saying they failed as parents.

I'm sorry, but I don't find either side innocent.
