A super secret is that when you feel like replacing something, give a real, deep thorough clean first. Powerwash the deck instead of replacing it. Restain the coffee table with something different before spending money on a different one.

I dont think that works when the boards are caved in in the middle lol.

We need to replace our deck pretty badly. Im hoping to make it a lot bigger. One of the cooks I watch on YouTube has a 30x40 deck, and I love the idea of that much space, but well have to see what the cost is when the time comes.

Obviously get Trex decks so you dont have to worry about deformation and any maintenance (e.g., repainting).

I doubt those were a thing when the house was built. It was just a wooden deck that was never maintained at all, but its lasted 35 years.

Well said, and if it makes you feel less bad, Ive had to spend a LOT more than that. You also get blamed for problems that you didnt cause. Renting is a scam and some landlords let their houses become so dilapidated that the neighbors are affected.

One way or another, homeownership is my top three priorities right now.
