Reading around the LA subreddit apparently trees have been getting trimmed for weeks with a lot of users saying theirs were recently trimmed. So the city DOES trim at this time.

I'm not so sure it was Universal that did this.

Those aren't azelas. Not all plants get pruned the same way or the same time. But as a general rule giving a tree a "just fuck my shit up" haircut in July isn't a good idea.

It doesn't make sense that the city would do this because they have arborists who would tell them it's a terrible time in the season to trim the trees and also worse to butcher them this badly. Those trees will be dying now.

It makes a lot more sense for Universal to do this out of spite and they would rather pay the fines for violating tree law than agree to Union demands.

Our neighbors across the street cut their trees like that every year. I personally think it looks dumb and won't give them enough shade in time for summer, but their trees do grow back healthy.

Anyway, I'm not taking sides because I don't know if this was done out of spite, or if it was because it was an annual scheduled trimming?

  • this was Universal being malicious
  • this was the city being malicious
  • this was the city cutting back trees as part of scheduled maintenance
