You'd be surprised how many different Point of Sales there are, and how many people fuck it up.
Very often, is quicker for them to swipe.
I often times told them to just hand me the card, and I'll do it.

Correct bar etiquette in this case is to pay in cash and tip every drink.

Otherwise you open a tab with a card and pay for a handful of drinks at the end.

Anybody doing it different is fucked.

Contactless pay isn't very common in the US at resturaunts and bars just yet. In Europe yeah it's everywhere but the US is strangely behind in that industry.

What If the bar in question takes their sweet time cashing out a tab but will immediately cash out drinks one at a time?

They're pretty much everywhere here in Aus which is why I (and I guess others) are kinda baffled about the complaints of "holding up the bartender trying to pay for every drink". I honestly cannot remember the last time I visited a store/venue that did not have contactless pay.

You tell the server what drink(s) you want and they punch the amount into the pay unit and then you swipe your card and it's done instantly. It takes at most 10 seconds.

This is the reason why you'll see a lot of places like gas stations have minimums on debit transactions.

There's really no good argument, imo, to force a business to continuously pay that fee, unless they incorporate it into the price of the drink.

So I mean, are you guys just arguing for economic inefficiency?

There used to be a fee per transaction in the UK but that was years ago. I dont think its the case anymore, given how many bars no longer accept cash and expect you to pay by the round.
