Already have Stray Cat which as I recall is basically Gau's go-to Rage to carry him through the game when he doesn't need something more specific.

Kinda grinding out new ones on the Veldt as a secondary goal while letting my party learn magic without leveling up (I want to be very specific with my levelup bonuses) and I already know I missed out on some permanently because they didn't show up in areas I can't access anymore, so I'm curious what other ones are considered essential for Gau to have access to.

Side note, I wish the Pixel Remaster would let you reorder the Rages so I could just double-tap to activate Stray Cat rather than have to navigate to it in the list. You could reorder your spells and abilities in 4 for quicker and easier access to your most-used ones, not sure why they didn't make it so you can do the same in 6.

Stray Cat 100% especially if you're going to use Merit Award on Gau though I believe that set-up is SNES exclusive? Still, it's a good one.

On your first trip you'll want to get Stray Cat definitely, as well as Darkside (casts Blizzara + immune to instant death, zombie, petrify, silence, sleep, and poison), Templar (casts Fira + has inherent Protect status), Ghost (casts Thundara + immune to instant death), Mu (Snare), and Guard Leader (Wind Slash).

For Endgame: level 3s you'll want Primeval Dragon/Brontaur (Firaga), Baalzephon(Blizzaga), and Punisher(Thundaga).

Two really good Rages for tanking purposes are Magic Urn (which lets you absorb all elements + gives immunity to all statuses + casts Curaga) and Destroyer (casts Reraise randomly + absorbs lightning and is immune to instant death / petrify / countdown).

Other misc. notable ones: Litwor Chicken (casts Quake which is good if you have Gaia Gear on your party / Float), Cloudwraith (casts Flare + absorbs Poison damage + immunity to Blind, Zombie, Poison, Imp, Petrify, Silence, Berserk, Sleep, Slow, and Stop),

100% means getting all rages, but Stray Cat is the most prominent one for a large portion of the game. Post 6 is a great summary.

Behemoth cast Meteor. Ninja uses water scroll for 100 base power water damage to all enemies. Borghese cast Holy.
